Twelve days post-op and feeling drained

I'm listening to everyone talking about meltdowns and I'm getting worried. I still have ovaries, no cervix or uterus. I am 12 days today. I do still feel drained, not sleeping so I know I am a little more edgy but more of my depression feelings are from worrying about finances being off work. I keep waiting for the meltdown to happen and I'm afraid I will lash out at the ones I love.

Re: Twelve days post-op and feeling drained

ksis,

Relax, rest when you can, and pamper the princess. Not everyone here lashes out at the people around them, some of us cry our eyes out every day, others are happy to be feeling better than they've felt in a while and see this whole thing as a huge improvement.

If you're really concerned about lashing out at your loved ones, talk to them about it beforehand - let them know about the hormones, stress, pain, lack of sleep, etc., - tell them you love them and don't mean to hurt them, and to please forgive you if you lose it at some point. I'm betting they'll understand and cut you the slack you need.

I felt edgy too, but never had the dreaded meltdown.....

I agree with the other posts - communication is key. You have a lot of time on your hands now, and time to think. You're early in the healing process and it is exhausting. Try to give yourself a break, and take care.

Re: Twelve days post-op and feeling drained

Tomorrow I will be five weeks post op from a complete hysterectomy. My cysts and endo were not diagnosed till I was 40. I might not be the average person, but I never have had "the dreaded meltdown" even though I had a misdiagnosed complication that set me back in my recovery.

Remember, everybody is different. Everybody has different surgeons and aftercare and there is no standard in how you will respond.

Try to stay positive. This kind of surgery is a "shock" to your body!!! Most surgeons won't tell you that. So, be gracious to yourself, even if you have a meltdown. It's okay to have one and you'll get through it. Think of all the women who have gone before you and me and how priviledged we are to have this kind of surgery with so much moreknowledge and much less invasive techniques.

Rest when you need......dream about what you will do when all this is behind you.....write if you can......use this forum as much as you need...know there is support

One thing I have concluded meeting people who have had endo and hysterectomies who were in their sixties that they all seemed very intelligent, very courageous, very determined, and heroes. Because they all had to put up with lots of pain, misdiagnoses that were sometimes to odd to comprehend as a layperson, making a living despite their condition, and not giving up till they would find a doc that listened to them and found the culprit of the problems. Another finding for me has been how important the hormones are and having a doc that is on the cutting edge of hormone replacement is key. If you want more info on that feel free to write me in person for more info.

For now, let yourself be, the worst is over.

Thank you Yellow2009! I am just spending today by myself resting. Just don't feel like being around anyone today. It's cold and yukky out. Perfect day for sleeping. Thanks for the words of encouragement! Huggsss to all of you!!!

Re: Twelve days post-op and feeling drained

I apologized in advance but I never did lash out at my loved ones. I was too emotional but it worked out ok.
