4 weeks post op hysterectomy appointment
I went in for my 4 week post op today and my doctor didn't check my cuff stitches. Is this normal? He looked at my belly incisions and asked a few questions, told me I could resume all normal activities (except intercourse) and said he would see me in a year. I guess I was just expecting things to go a little differently... I am super emotional (kept ovaries) and dreading returning to work in the morning. Please offer up any advice for me. I am tempted to make a 6 week appointment with another doctor just to validate that everything checks out as it should. Thanks in advance!

Re: 4 weeks post op hysterectomy appointment
Hi Natalie
I will be 6 weeks post op tomorrow (Aug. 26th). I did not have a 4 week post op appointment, I went this morning. My oncologist/surgeon asked me a few questions, discussed what I can return to doing and she did a quick internal to check the condition of my cuff. I had a TotalAbdominalHysterectomy which left me with an 8" vertical incision. Perhaps it depends on what type of surgery you had and/or where you live, I am in Canada. Can't say that I have read of anyone having a 4 week check up and not one at 6 weeks. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
Take care

I had a 3 week check-up today and had to ask him to look at my cuff. I think they assume it's fine so long as you're not bleeding or dropping clots.

4 weeks post op hysterectomy appointment
I just had my appt today I'm 5 weeks out & my dr checked my cuff today. Said I still have my stitches but that's normal & said to wait til 8 weeks for sex. She also wants to see me again at 8 weeks. I'm grateful for that cause if be kinda scared to have sex without her checking me first to make sure I'm ok!! I'd definitely see if you can make an appt & tell then u want to be checked internally. If they do not listen to u id get another doctor!! It's important to be able to trust ur dr & for them to listen to all of your concerns. If your dr is not willing there are plenty out there that will. Hang in there & I hope u get an appt soon for your peace of mind

Re: 4 weeks post op hysterectomy appointment
I'm curious how the doctor would know if your stitches are all healed if he doesn't take a look. And how will he clear you for intercourse if you don't come back for a year? I agree, I'd want to be seen at 6 weeks to get the all-clear for everything.

Re: 4 weeks post op hysterectomy appointment
So if you have any other questions or problems resulting from your surgery, who are you going to see? My Gyn.onc said to go to my doc now but she didn't specify which one. My GP is not good at answering my questions and now am wondering if I should go see my gyn(who is a surgeon also). I only seen him once and then off to Gyn/onc. For surgery.
