Surgery prep question

you are all very lucky. I had my lavh on dec 15th- Could have only a lite supper the night before and had to do a betadine douche(painless) but also a fleets enema. The enema was the worst part of the whole surgery as far as I am concerned. It is a dr. preferance as far as I know. Be glad you do not have to do what I had do. Good luck!!

Drs choice

I think the bowel prep depends on the drs preference and also what they think they could end up having to do.

In my case, I had an LAVH-BSO with bowel prep. Since I had a mass on an ovary that could have been cancer and require more intensive surgery, I had to do it. There was more danger of the bowel getting nicked in the more intensive procedure.

Fortunately for me, my bowel had wrapped around the ovary and what looked like a mass, wasn't.

So, whatever doc says, goes. Hang in there ladies, you'll soon be a princess!

Surgery prep question

I had the LAVH, no bowel prep, no douche, just no food after midnight the night before surgery.

As has been mentioned each has his/her own preference depending on you, your surgery type, etc.

If your doctor did not give you any instructions it is best to call and verify. Also, do not "add" to your doctors orders--for instance if you do a bowel prep when one is not ordered, you could end up dehydrated and cause other serious complications. This has happened to other women who chose to take the advice of others over the orders from the medical professional. If you have concerns, discuss them with your doctor before your surgery.

Best wishes to you all for your upcoming surgeries!

Surgery prep question

liberty gal, I had the bladder tacked before the sling during same surgery and I do not feel any type of extra pain. I did have a TVH and not a TAH so I don't know if that makes a difference for pain on the bladder sling. It's worth it even if there is some pain to be able to cough or laugh once again without leakage. I had the dry heaves and no leakage. Best wishes to you.

Surgery prep question

Hi LIbertygal, itsweetwee, and all those 16th ladies!
I had my first crying spell today. Went to visit my parents and my dad cried 'cause he is sooooo worried about me. Guess it's an only child thing. I managed to keep it together until I left, but then lost it. I'm trying to keep busy. I haven't been too worried, although as it gets closer I'm getting more emotional. Wrote notes to family members last night...just in case the worst happens. That was difficult, but I'm glad I did it. I guess the 'Mom' in me had to say a couple of last words to my kids. Again, did I say I wasn't worried? HA! My doc said 2-3 days at the castle. I'd kinda like to stay longer....crazy huh? Unless I'm restless and bored, I'm up for some pampering! Hugs to all... Deb
