Hormone Therapy?

I went to Walmart today. My husband took me so I could pick up a couple things. Felt great until I got back in the car- wow did it zap my energy! Happy though that I was reguvenated by the time that I got home. NO NAP today! I hope I sleep well tonight.

I was wondering. My doctor did not start me on any hormones after my surgery. I am only a week out. Is this normal? I have been reading up on HRT and not sure what to think or do. I have a follow up appointment in two weeks. I have heard that many women leave the hospital on HRT, is this true?

Is it better to do HRT? Do you reccomend bioidentical? I have read a lot of the literature and I am very confused.

Re: Hormone Therapy?

I am 51 and received an estrogen shot in the recovery roof (surprise) and then was given 1 mg. of Estrace. It was too much and I got very anxious and my boobs felt like they would explode. I think I was on the downward slide with the estrogen anyway and that was too much of a load to begin with

Wow --- I think I would have been surprised also! According to my doc - she wants to wait another month before deciding if hormone replacement would benefit me. So far, I'm tolerating the hot flashes and night sweats and managing the mood swings. What has me worried are the headaches I seem to get in the mornings - however a tylenol, advil, or excederin seem to work well.

Re: Hormone Therapy?

About two week in, after my surgery I started getting headaches and body aches. I found that the natural progesterone from the store on here helped take away the headaches and to my surprise my body aches. I have not had them back since I started. I'm not on estrogen as I kept my ovaries. But you may want to check with your doctor to see if you may benefit from progesterone. I know it helped me a lot

Also my anxiety went away big time

Re: Hormone Therapy?

Hi ladies,

I'm 4 1/2 weeks past my TAH/BSO and am taking Estroven, a supplement with black cohosh, soy and other vitamins. so far I think that it is helping take the edge off. I have just about 2 flashes, mostly in the evening, and a few issues with night sweats, but nothing I can't handle. also seems to be helping with the head aches I was getting every evening. I would encourage you to talk to your doc about it as my Gyno recommended it as an alternative to estrogen (i have stage 1 endometrial cancer and stage 4 endometriosis). good luck ladies!

Re: Hormone Therapy?

My doctor and I also wanted to wait on the HRT. I wanted three and a half weeks before the night sweats were unbearable. I also had insomnia and hot flashes during the day as well. I started Evamist (bioidenetical) I have noticed a bit of a difference but my doctor said it would take three weeks. I am to increase the spray by one after that if I feel like I need more. I think I will for sure have to do that.

Re: Hormone Therapy?

I didn't take any HRT right after surgery either. I had my post-op appointment 4 weeks after surgery. My Dr. put me on Premarin .45 (a low dose estrogen pill) because I was having several hot flashes a day and about 4-5 at night. I sleep pretty well until about 3:00 a.m., then I don't sleep much at all. I've been on the pills for 3 days and it hasn't helped yet, but I'm sure it takes a little bit of time.

Re: Hormone Therapy?

Because of the endo, I have to wait about 6 months, if I can, for estrogen. I would like to try a bioidentical pill. I am taking Prometrium (bio-id progesterone). I'm still having a little bit of night sweats and hot flashes, but no anxiety (thank God!!!).
