Re: What to expect when waking up from the anesthesia?

My surgery was to be on Tuesday- July 19, and I got bumped to Friday- July 30 because the hospital had to move a few people around due to a few urgent surgeries that came up during the previous night. At least when I got the cancelation call I was given a few dates to pick for rescheduling. I was told mine was not a matter of life and death and it could wait. I was so mad, my doctor was mad, but there was nothing we could do since there were no OR rooms available (think small town).

As far as waking up, I remember being wheeled into the surgery room, and then waking up to having a nurse taking my blood pressure. My husband and MIL were already in the room and they said I had been in there for about 10 mins. I went right back to sleep. I was in and out of it for about 3 hours then I was wide awake and felt fine with just a dull pain.

Best of luck for when you do have surgery.

Re: What to expect when waking up from the anesthesia?

I have not had my hyst yet but did go under for my ablation that I had in 2008. I remember small things. I remember sitting in the pre-op room with my mom and daughter, I remember crying when they gave my my iv (I HATE HATE HATE needles). Then that is it. I don't even remember my drive home later that day. I did not have any neausea which was great. The only other experience I have had with people going under is my daughter who is 12 and has already had surgery to have a baseball size cyst removed from her left ovary and another one on her left. When she wakes up she is MEAN. We always joke around about it because she comes out of it ready to fight. But other then that we have not had any problems. Good Luck!!

Re: What to expect when waking up from the anesthesia?

Dear Donna,
I'm hoping you wake up like I did, which was- alert , pain free and wondering what time it was. Soon to be followed with , a little bit thirsty and within hours 'hungry'
I would have to say that I attribute much of my 'luck' to the epidural I'm soooooo glad to have been offered (which was also over and done with with zero discomfort in a jiffy)
My ONLY regret is that I didn't purchase the abdominal binder, as I found myself attempting to wear 'thick banded jersy skirts' which would offer me some support once I returned home.
I would highly recommend that everyone consider that purchase for ease of recovery.
Sweet dreams for tomorrow & congratulations for after your nap
