Sleep meds (pre-op)

I am scheduled to have a hysterectomy on July 14th, through the abdomen and am having everything taken out. I haven't slept in three days. I had called the hospital since July 7th to schedule a pre-surgery conference so they can prepare me for the surgery and answer any question I may have. They couldn't schedule me anything until July 13th.

Anyway, to make a long story short. I was wondering if I am able to take any sleeping pills or will it mess up my chances on getting the procedure done? I have ambien prescribed by my doctor. I know I am supposed to ask my doctor, but it is a sunday here and I have to work at 0200 tomorrow morning and like I said, I havent slept in 3 days and I am schedule to work until 1400. I just thought I could get a general response if anyone was advised not to take any pain or sleep meds prior to surgery. Thank you for your response.

Re: Sleep meds (pre-op)

I was told nothing blood thinning for 7 days before surgery (aspirin and motrin). They gave me a tranquilzer for the three days before surgery!

Most hospitals have an on call person you can call at all hours to run these kind of questions past. Why don't you try calling the hospital and see if they can connect you with someone?

Re: Sleep meds (pre-op)

You know I actually did and they told me I had to ask my doctor because she has my file. I said it's sunday and her office is closed. I told her that I even tried the pre surgery conference thing and it isnt my fault they schedule me the conference call one day before my surgery so basically im out of luck. I tried doing research online but i found nothing. So I figured Im okay. I have had so much pain and have been taking pain killers but stopped yesterday because Im scared as well to miss the chance of having the procedure done.

I appreciate so much for your speedy response.
