PCOS no more!!

I had my 6 week checkup yesterday, so I asked my doctor if I still had PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) because he took out my ovaries. He said "No." He said that PCOS is just a vicious cycle of several things and that the ovaries were a part of that cycle, and since the ovaries are gone, the cycle is broken. I was so surprised, because I thought that they were a symptom of PCOS not necessarily a part of the cause. So I am a happy camper.

We had this conversation a few weeks ago, so I just wanted to let you guys know what I found out.

Something else you may want to consider....he said that there is a big difference between a surgeon doing this operation and a gynocologist doing it. Surgeons are a bit rougher on the body and are not always looking at the future gyno health of our bodies. He brought this up when we were talking about the ligaments holding up the vagina so that it would not prolapse.

Just something to think about.

PCOS no more!!

Did you get a copy of your pathology?
I was wondering what it said. I had been diagnosed with PCOS for years and years and one of my ovaries had a big hemmoraghic cyst on it and the other one was basically filled with tiny little cysts. I think that second one was indicative of PCOS.
I also had endometriosis, adhesisions and adenomysis... so happy that all that painful stuff is out of there!
I also had a vertical incision... not pretty but he needed room to work.
Hope you feel better every day!

PCOS no more!!

I did not get a copy of my pathology, but I think I will ask for one. I went in for an emergency hysterectomy, so there wasn't a lot of talk as to what was going to be done beforehand. My gynocologist is known for being very conservative and saving the ovaries at all cost, so I told him to do whatever he needed to do. He is one of the best in our area and very knowledgeable, he even holds free seminars at area health food stores about gynocological health.

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 3 years ago, although I have probably had it for about 25 years.

Obviously, my dead ovary had to be removed, he said that my other ovary was covered with cysts too, so he went ahead and removed it as well so that it wouldn't give me problems down the road.

I think I will ask for a copy of my surgery report as well.
