Frustrated with lack of help doing housework!
Good morning ladies! I am 3 weeks 1 day post op TAH today... I am so frustrated with the lack of help from my family with the housework! I live with my BF of 7 years and my two boys, ages 15 and 13. I think that I have done more housework since my surgery than the 3 of them combined! I mention that something needs to be done and they say "I know". If I start to do something, they say "oh, don't worry about it", but then it never gets done! Plus I sit home all day and have to look at and live in the mess while they are at school/work. I guess I have come to realize that if I don't do it... it doesn't get done. I have one or two friends in town who have offered help... but at this point I am too embarrassed to ask them because it is so dirty now and because there is ABSOLUTELY no reason the three able bodied people that live here can't be doing it! My main complaint is the laminate flooring (we also have 3 dogs) and I have been told absolutely no sweeping, mopping or vacuuming. Sorry so long... guess I just needed to vent! Overall, feeling pretty ok, my gut is still sore and I tire easily. Definately had "down days" the last two days, but feeling better this morning.
Have a great day, ladies

completely normal hun i just kept being told ...in a min.....giv us five mins....il do it later, in fact that what gets to you most sitting in a dirty house, embarrassed if someone was to come round, but we just have to sit it out, it will still be there tomorrow, and after that and next week, we have to heal properly so it must be left, but your not alone xx

Re: Frustrated with lack of help doing housework!
I hate the rolling eyes, I get from them, whenever I ask, and as I do the most things by myself because I can't see it not done anymore, it's only the lifting, I ask about :-/
I tried to write a list and pinned it at the kitchen door. At least that worked for my son :-)

I am glad the note somewhat worked for you... I think my family is selectively oblivious though! I think I am going to break down and pay a maid service for a one time cleaning. That should make a point and then I can recover in a clean, comfortable environment.
Have a great day and thanks for your reply

Re: Frustrated with lack of help doing housework!
If you can afford it, get a maid service in, it will make you feel alot better....Luckily my husband has been great because my two children have been even more useless than usual when it comes to picking up around the house. If I ask my teenage son to pick up his sweater and put it away, I get the eye roll and the "whatever", or "later".... I keep trying to remind my self that they are by nature so self involved that they dont realize how little help they are..... this too shall pass, or so I hear....

Re: Frustrated with lack of help doing housework!
I totally understand!! My mom came to help for the 1st 4 weeks and I made her promise that she would clean if she came. She has major depression so after the 1st few days, she spent most of the days in her room. She vacuumed 2x. My DH tries but his idea of clean and mine are different. He has no idea that you need to vacuum baseboards and stairs(and says that it isn't dirty if I ask him to do it). When I would wipe the counter or straighten the kitchen island, they would get mad and think that I thought they didn't do it right. I am so glad that the dr gave me the ok to resume normal activities even though I am supposed to do it gradually. At least there is light at the end of the tunnel!
Oh, my kids are 7 & 9. My 9 year old has been great about doing almost anything that I ask. My 7 year old - not so much!

Re: Frustrated with lack of help doing housework!
Dont feel bad. I'm four weeks post op and my husband has done nothing. I sit around looking at everything that needs to be done and i get very angry. The worst part is i'm back to work cause i couldn't afford to take off any more and im exhausted by the time i get home so nothing is still getting done. Cant wait to get some of my energy back.

Re: Frustrated with lack of help doing housework!
My biggest problem is that I am sooooo bored. I love to read but can only read so much, daytime tv is less than desirable and even playing around on the computer gets boring. Sadly, I look forward to these little chats on here more than I should. lol
My husband (bless his soul) has actually volunteered to paint the living room and dining room, saying that picking paint chips and ordering him around will at least give me something to do. I am 5 days post op so I still cant walk very far, I make it to the corner and back but that is it.
Also, when were you guys able to sleep on your sides again? That is how I normally sleep but it hurts too much to sleep like that right now so I am not getting much sleep...

Re: Frustrated with lack of help doing housework!
I was able to sleep on my side about two weeks in. I slept in the recliner for the first week or so. It hurt too bad for me to sleep in the bed.
