Wondering about delaying surgery

HI! I'm new here and not quite sure if I'm doing this right

I consider myself lucky that I have not had some of the serious issues that many of you have. I think you are all amazing women for offering advice to those of us waiting

Anyway - a few years ago my periods starting getting really heavy and clotty. I went to my doctor and he suggested waiting and watching which I did for a while and they kept getting worse. Finally, he gave me options and suggested I try NovaSure - sounded wonderful to me. I had the ablation done in February. 6 weeks later, my "monthly gift" showed up and the only difference was that there was no clots. Another 6 weeks has gone by and same thing with maybe a little less bleeding. Went back to my doctor and he asked what my thought process was coming in. I told him I wanted a hysterectomy, so he agreed and scheduled me for one July 1. Told me it would have to be abdominal because he could not do it vaginally (sorry - not sure what the abbreviation for that is).

Now that surgery is a little more than a week away, I am starting to wonder if I am doing the right thing. We have a trip to Las Vegas planned for 6 weeks after surgery. I am not nervous about the surgery, but the recovery. I don't want to go on vacation to spend it all in bed recovering. My DH is worried about me, but completely supportive of whatever I decide to do. I also have not had a period this month and am also wondering if maybe the ablation takes a while to really start working. Did doing that confuse things in there and just now they are going to do what they are supposed to? Should I wait and see what happens or just have it done now that I am mentally prepared for it?

I know these are ridiculous questions, but I don't know who else to ask.

Re: Wondering about delaying surgery

I guess if you're not sure its the right time, delaying surgery and maybe getting another opinion makes sense. Its not an emergency so you could wait. At least ask the Dr if you might still get improvement. No way to really predict how you'll do at 6 wks for your holiday. I'd think OK but reading here, lots of ladies are still pretty tired then. Its not easy to predict how fast you'd heal. Usually if you're asking if you should wait, at least get more info and be sure before you go ahead. Good luck with your decision.

Re: Wondering about delaying surgery

I think it would be ok to delay the surgery if you're not sure. I delayed mine till all my treatment options were exhausted and even had three different dr opinions on what type of surgery I needed. Good luck in whatever you decide.
