In too much pain to wait for surgery
I scheduled surgery today for 9/7/04 - my Dr was booked up until August and I couldn't take August because it's too close to a wedding that I am in. The bride is my best friend and I just cannot miss the wedding.
The thing is...I am in SOOOO much pain (uterin fibroids 5 or more in the back of my uterus) and I don't feel as if I can make it to the surgery date. My husband is worried about all of the pain medication and doesn't think that it is healthy to take the medication for any more months. If I could go to the emergency room right now, I would if I thought they would perform the surgery TODAY!

In too much pain to wait for surgery
You sound just like me a few months ago--terrible pain, excessive daily bleeding for about 8 months also in my case. I was on pain meds for about 3 months before my surgery--I was trying to hold off until school was out for summer because I am a teacher. I couldn't do it. I finally called my doctor back, after scheduling a June 1st visit, told him I would take the first cancellation date--if anyone was unable to have theirs before mine was scheduled, I wanted their date! A couple of days later, they called me back, and my surgery was moved up 2 weeks. Had to take off work early, but it was so worth it. I was in unbelievable pain, and since the first day of surgery, my pain level has never reached the level of my preop pain. No more pain meds, no more pain.
I know the wedding is important to you, but I would tell my doc that I am available for any cancellation dates if you are that serious about moving it up and getting it over with. You never know--may be a cancellation tomorrow.

In too much pain to wait for surgery
Hi Shesha!
"I hear ya, Sister!" I had to wait over 6 weeks (in pain) for my gyn to have an opening, and I thought I would end up in a mental institution! As the days dragged by, I kept thinking "I can't hold out until then." It was not pleasant, to say the least. It can't hurt to check on cancellation policies and procedures with your gyn's office, however. Let's hope that you can find a way to get in sooner. With me, when I asked the Surgery Scheduler if I could be put on a "cancellation list" her reply was, "We don't have one, because typically any cancellations would take place just a day or two before, and another patient wouldn't have time for the pre-op." I know in my heart that my family physician would have "squeezed me in" for a last-minute pre-op exam, if the opportunity would have presented itself, but I just gave up at that point, and waited it out.
Many s to you!

In too much pain to wait for surgery
Dear Shesha, I too am in unbearable pain. I scheduled my surgery 5/21 and it will be this Thursday 7/1 (due to scheduling conflicts with doctor, urologist and hospital). To get through the past weeks my doctor has given me Percoset to take every 3-4 hours and I have. I just can't take any Tylenol or Advil the week before surgery due to potential bleeding problems. I was also worried about taking narcotics for so long, however, I am taking them for severe pain, not pleasure. So I hope there won't be any problems getting off them after the surgery since hopefully the endo pain will be gone. Waiting till 9/7 is a long time to be in pain.
Best of luck. Your surgery is on my birthday so I will definitely be thinking of you.
