Find out May 12 when hyst to be scheduled

Hi, this is my first post. My family dr had always told me my uterus was enlarged. Have had heavy, clotty, long lasting periods since last pregnancy 17 years ago. Few years ago tried different types of meds to try to slow it down and relieve cramping but nothing worked. Last July had a d&c which didn't help.
In March I started having severe right side pain. Different from my other abdominal pain. It turned out I had a stone in my appendix so I had laproscopic appendectomy 4/23/05. The test also showed I had a couple of cysts on my right ovary. The surgeon had an ob-gyn to assist to check the cysts on right ovary. The largest was half-dollar size which she cored and punctured two smaller ones on the right and one small one on the left. She said my uterus was the size of 10-12 week pregnancy. She said I had adenomyosis. Since she didn't know anything about my periods and she explained what they should be like with that I told her she had me pegged 100%. She couldn't believe I've went this long and my family dr didn't already say I should have something more done.
I go May 12 to pre-op visit to air out all questions I have. They are going to do TAH but leave the ovaries. I'm concerned that maybe they should take out the right ovary since I've had severe right side pain since my appendectomy. (I actually wondered if they took out my appendix or not.)
This site is wonderful. I've gotten alot of information to better equip myself on my pre-op visit, my checklists and what to expect afterward.
Any advise will be greatly appreciated.
Good luck to those with upcoming dates and Happy recoveries to those that are post-op.

Hi, and to HysterSisters!

You'll get lots of wonderful support here from ladies who have been right where you are. We're here whenever you need us.

One thing we really stress here is the value of additional medical opinions. You might consider finding another doctor who could give you another opinion. There may be less invasive options which could delay a hysterectomy or take away the need altogether. We have heard of ladies going to several physicians and getting very different diagnoses, so it may be a good idea to do additional research.

When you go for your pre-op appointment, go armed with lots of questions (click on Checkpoints in the lavender bar at the top of this page). In fact, you might consider submitting them in writing before your appointment. I did this, and it made my appointment much easier because they lined up all the literature I requested and it was ready for me when I showed up for the appointment.

As for the pain you're experiencing, it might be the ovary or it might be something else altogether. I recently had some left-side pain that I assumed was my ovary, but turned out to be a completely unrelated malady. So make sure you bring up that issue at your pre-op appointment, too!

Best wishes to you.
