Xanax is for anxiety. I use it when needed. be careful though. its very addictive.
I dont know about the other drug you asked about.

zanax and metoprolol
Hi Charlotte
Xanax and Metroprolol are both pretty heavy duty medications. Here are links to info on each of them:
http://www.psyweb.com/Drughtm/xanax.html
http://medications.com/go/drug/Metroprolol
You are also on Syntest, right? Often women on Syntest or Estratest may have symptoms of too little estrogen (heart palpitations, anxiety, high blood pressure, insomnia, sweats) along with symptoms of too much testosterone (particularly agitation). Do those sound like the symptoms you had last night?
I went to the ER with that set of symptoms a couple of years ago because the DR at my local clinic thought I might be having a mini stroke. It turned out to be low estrogen (though the ER docs missed it, thought I was just 'anxious' and sent me home with a prescription for Ambien). Once I got my estrogen level back up, all the symptoms went away.
Are you working with your DR on this? Sounds like you need to be seen ASAP to figure out what's going on.
s,
-Linda

I have taken both meds you are on. They gave me metoprolol for a rapid irregular heart rate. I could not continue to take it because I had bad side effects from it. I have rapid HR and supraventricular contractions. Getting ready to go to DR about getting some new meds because it is acting up again.

xanax and metoprolol
I became heavily addicted to XANAX!!. An addictionoligist put me on it.
It cost 18,000.00 dollars and a 6 week stay in a detox center and psychiatric hospital to get me off. I was very very, very, VERY ill physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally for one and a half years.!!!!!! Am just now recovering with the help of 2 specialists, ALOT OF MONEY, ALOT OF PRAYERS and a TOTAL AND COMPLETE MIRACLE FROM GOD!!!!!! It is an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DRUG!!
As with many, it can be FATAL!!!!! Please be very closely MONITORED by not just any physician but a PSYCHIATRIST that is more HOLISTIC and will prescribe NATURAL SUPPLEMENTS for you. A PSYCHIATRIST has the knowledge of these particular medications MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more so than ANY other doctor other than maybe an ENDOCRINOLOGIST. PLEASE PROCEED WITH EXTREME CAUTION!!!! I hope this will help. I NEVER EVER want anyone to go through the PAIN AND SUFFERING that I went through if I can be of any help. Maybe that is why I had to go through it. So I could be of help to others. I literally came VERY close to the doorway of DEATH!! I am not writin this to scare you at all. I am writing this to help you not to be AFRAID and be well informed and make INTELLIGENT choices like I am absolutely sure you do. If i can be of any further assistance, (Oops! Please keep support on the message boards.) post again on this site. Take very good CARE of yourself. You DESERVE it as all of GOD's children do. I will say a PRAYER for you and MAY GOD BLESS!!!!!!!!!!

thanks Drew
Drew,
Thank you so much ,, I am very sorry for what you went thru .. I am not a pill taker anyway .. I hate taking things like nerve pills , antidepressents and so forth.. I haven't even pick the zanax up from pharmasist yet .. The ones they gave me in ER fri. nite
I slept all day long sat. and felt terrible ,, so I decided i didn't want to take them,, It is now early am on Sun.. and I even slept all nite last nite with a few nite sweats and swelling of hands.. But thru all this I forgot to take my syntest .. guess I better take it while I am thinking about it ..
They did an EKG and blood test and said my heart was ok ,,
but do have the rapid heart beat .. I go to a DR the 7th that works with a compounding Pharmasist.. hoping to get good results there... Please do keep me in your prayers and I will do the same for you ....

zanax and metoprolol
I take xanax...and I cant imagine getting hooked on it, it wipes me out. It does take an anxiety attack from 60 to 0 really fast.
I only take a half a one..only a full one if I want a good nights rest.

While I haven't taken anti-depressants due to anxiety, I have been given a variety of meds over the years to help with ongoing pain issues. I'm not currently using any, but would like to point out that we are all different. Just because a med didn't work for one person or they became addicted, does NOT mean the same will hold true for you. The best thing you can do is talk with your doctor about any concerns that you have. The med he/she has prescribed may be the one that works for you, but you won't know if you don't try it just because it didn't work for someone else.
