Morphene or Epidural

Surgery tomorrow, All ready except I need to decide on the pain relief for afterwards. I've been given the choice of Morphene or an Epidural. Is an epidural risky if you have had problems with your back?

Morphene or Epidural

Hi!

I am sure you will want to discuss this carefully with your doctor and anesthesiologist as they are best qualified to determine what is safest for your circumstances.

Best wishes for your surgery today! We look forward to hearing about your experience!

Morphene or Epidural

I don't want to see or hear anything during surgery. For pain mainenance, my doctors "drug of choice"is morphine.

Morphene or Epidural

Each person is different and it is best for you and your dr to make this decision together. I personally thought morphine was the way to go. It helped me sleep better too. And I had my catheter out sooner.

pain

I had the epidural. It gave me 18 hrs. of no pain. After the numbness from my legs wore off, which was a couple of hours after surgery. The block they put in lasted quite awhile. So I didnt need any pain meds til the next day. Only took a couple of percocet, puked and then I was fine. I havent been on pain meds. since. I am almost 3 wks. post op. I also have back problems ( sciatica ) sp?.
