Diagnosed with adenomyosis and ovarian cyst removal (updated) 2012

Hi ladies, I'm 36 years old and have recently been diagnosed with adenomyosis and just a few days ago had a cyst removed from my right ovary. My uterus is enlarged and the specialist has told me that over the years it will steadily grow which will make symptoms from adenomyosis worse. My uterus is also attached to the upper uterine wall. All of these have caused me much pain and heavy irregular bleeding, especially since the birth of my daughter 4 years ago. I am blessed with two beautiful children and my husband and I are definately we do no not want any more children. The dr has given us options but we see that having the hysterectomy will improve the quality of my life considerably. No more severe blood loss, cramping, pain, migraines etc. I am sharing my story with you all for support and to offer support to those experiencing similar symptoms. May you all get the strength and courage from your families loved ones and fellow hyster sisters so we can all get through this painful time xo

Re: Diagnosed with adenomyosis and ovarian cyst removal

I was diagnosed with the same as you; both adeno and the cysts. I was not really given the option, but told I need a hyster. I am 34 and have 3 beautiful daughters, so children is not a concern. And my family has a strong history of ovarian cancer. I know this is the best thing for me right now. My everyday pain will be gone.

I am scared tho. And the closer it gets to surgery time, the more emotional I get. I wish you luck, and you are definitely not alone here.

Re: Diagnosed with adenomyosis and ovarian cyst removal

Hi estrawser,
I am happy that you have replied to my message :-) it sounds like we have both been on the same path with the cysts and adeno and i wish you all the strength and courage to get through the hyster. When is your op scheduled for?
I have yet to book mine in as i just had my cyst removed on thursday and still recovering. The specialist gave me options to basically control the bleeding and pain from the adeno but i feel it is just a bandaid and i will only need to do the surgery down the track anyway.
I am greatful for the 2 beautiful kids i have and by the sounds of it you are happy with your girls.
I too am anxious and fear the surgery. I have been through 2 ceasarians already but i guess just the worry of major surgery is on my mind too.
I hope its ok me asking but are youhaving just your uterus removed or ovaries too? Hope we can keep in touch. Im dimi from sydney australia

Re: Diagnosed with adenomyosis and ovarian cyst removal

Hi Dimi, I'm Erika. I go in next Monday, the 17th. Which is the day after my 35 birthday. I'm having my uterus and both ovaries removed. The closer it gets to surgery date, the more scared I get. I'm not necessarily scared of the surgery. I'm confident this is the best decision for me. I'm more scared of life after. What will I be like? How will my sex life be? Fear of the unknown, ya know? Everyone reacts differently. This site is very informative. I think I've read everything twice by now lol. And I keep reading everyday. I wish you much luck on your journey.

Diagnosed with adenomyosis and ovarian cyst removal (updated) 2012

Hi Erika,
Thanks for connecting with me. Its great to know we are not alone and even though strangers we can connect with similar thoughts, fears and anxieties about this surgery. I too am feeling similar. Fear of the unknown and what to expect afterwards. I have had 2 ceasars with my 2 kids and i wonder if it will be similar. Keep in touch and i hope all goes well for you Erika x

Re: Diagnosed with adenomyosis and ovarian cyst removal

Hi Dimi, I am 43 years old with 4 children. Went through many years of pain &heavy periods and a cyst on my right ovary. After an ablation in 2009 seems as thou my periods came back with revenge! Where it was suppose to help and failed. I too was frightened, but ultimately decided to have LVH ( per Davinci) which I had one week ago today. Along with mini-arch transvaginal tape for my bladder. Turns out it was a great decision, I had severe Adenomyosis and multi infections which he said it looked really Ugly, so after sending it through to pathology while I was in surgery, said it was benign and he knew he could save my ovaries. Since that was my original plan. My left ovary had attached itself to some of the infected areas but he was able to save that ovary as well! Oh and he said the ablation I had in 2009, never even worked! I find myself very relieved and I immediately remember telling my daughter after surgery, when she asked how I was doing. I said, I feel like something really bad has left my body. I will never forget that. My recovery has been better then I thought . I'd had nothing to compare it to. I'm not out doing cartwheels, but boy, I feel great! I Just take it slow and I have to remind myself that I did just have surgery! Good luck and best wishes😊

Re: Diagnosed with adenomyosis and ovarian cyst removal

Hi Trace! Thanks for sharing your story with me. I am overwhelmed by the kindness, sharing of stories and support from everyone and ive only just joined an discovered this site. Im very happy for you regarding your recovery and i wish you all the very best in your continued recovery. I am fascinated with these less intrusive techniques they are using but undortunately my specialist recommends abdominal hyster due to my uterus being attached to my abdominal wall. I will talk to him further about the less intrusive tecniques and see what he says. Keep in touch sister x

Re: Diagnosed with adenomyosis and ovarian cyst removal

Hello, I am new to the site, had my surgery over a week ago. All is going well, except for the anxiety and fear of the unknown and evil thoughts, but I know with God on my side and meeting and talking to others here will help me extremely. The road was scary before and a little scary now, but my doc says it should go away and I believe him, but any ideas on anxiety relaxation and releasing of fear would truly help. I only had one child and I'm not disappointed, but I do have two lovely grandkids and I also had cyst on both my ovaries and once inside there were tissue damage, but I know and pray that all will be well for each of us.

Re: Diagnosed with adenomyosis and ovarian cyst removal

I'm 36 and having surgery in just a handful of days...everything goes as they say. I am the most anxious about aging quickly after surgery. I am worried about mechanical menopause and I have this crazy fear my skin will suddenly change.
