Nervous and scared--Wed. is the day

Hi Hyster Sisters,

Well, Wed. is almost here. Last week I felt pretty calm and peaceful about my surgery, but I woke up in the middle of the night last night and realized I was feeling scared now. This morning I am even tearful and have a strange feeling in my pelvic area--kind of like I have to pee but I don't. This whole thing is such an up and down process. I know my feelings are normal and I'm not doubting my decision for a second. I'm just so nervous and scared all of a sudden! This is such a big thing to face! Any support is greatly appreciated.

Love to all my sisters!

Nervous and scared--Wed. is the day

Hi,

I'm 11 weeks post op and just coming to terms with my new found freedom. I was a TOTAL bag of nerves, crying etc in a real mess. Like you I had awful fibroids and have kepy my ovaries - you will not knowyourself in a few months you'll look back at this and smile.

Just wanted you to know that I'll be thinking of you on Wednesday, I guess by your name your a pet lover, I am too, have two dogs, 11 parrot type birds, a hamster, two terrapins and an understanding husband!!!

One thing that really helped me, my surgeon prescribed me two sleeping pills before I went to theatre, and I was given an anesthetic cream on my hand so I wouldn't feel the needle. I was and still am petrified of needles - so when I was taken to theatre I just drifted off to sleep, it wasn't frightening at all. Maybe have a word with the doctor and see what they can do. I'm in England by the way, but I'm sure they'll do everything they can to make things easy for you.

Anyway, hope this helps, take a hug from one who's been there
you'll soon be a princess!

luv

Serry

Nervous and scared--Wed. is the day

Hi BunnyLover,

I'm set for the 19th as well! I do my pre-op this afternoon. I have had a few moments of being really scared & nervous but actually we just moved so I have been really preoccupied with all of this mess!! I'm just rushing trying to get my house organized so I can relax during my recovery time. I had some breast surgery one time and did too much, too soon after & caused myself to get a hematoma, sooooooooo I know this time I will not do one thing that I'm not suppossed to.

The only thing I worry about is the biggie...not waking up from the anesthesia. But I am coming to terms with the fact that "what will be, will be" and to tell the truth, I'm not having a great quality of life right now sooooooo.....

I guess I could also be worrying about "what if" I don't get better after but I feel in my heart that I will, ya know, woman's intuition!!! I have been having more pain down there basically due to the fact that husband & I are having a lot of sex. I figured what's the big deal...I do it once & I hurt and by the time I'd feel better, it would be surgery time anyway, so I told him we could do it as much as he wanted!! Oy vey.....he's really taking me up on that too!!!!!

The only support I can give you, is that I'll be laying there right along with ya!! And I DO hope for the best for all of us!! Thank you Serry, for letting us know that there will be a time when we can look back on all this & realize it wasn't so bad????

Take care BunnyLover! I will look for your post after our surgeries.

Lovely

Nervous and scared--Wed. is the day

Hi Bunnylover
Hun, it's perfectly normal to be anxious, nervous, or even downright terrified. These feelings are your own, so don't try to hide them. Let yourself FEEL.

Do try to focus on the positive though. In a few days you'll be on the road to the new you.

Can you try to do something special for yourself today? Buy something new for the castle? Maybe a new yummy lipbalm? How bout giving yourself a nice facial? Anything just to try to soothe your nerves and calm yourself.

Of course it's easy for me to say....my castle date is still 4 weeks away. Just know that all your sisters are here for you. Keep posting with all of your questions, thoughts, fears, etc. We are here, and will keep you company while you wait for your castle day.

Here's a big healing, comforting

Nervous and scared--Wed. is the day

I wish I could say that I was not nervous before my surgery...

No I don't!

Shoot, being nervous is a perfectly natural response!! I think I spent the 2 days before surgery acting like an alzheimers patient, thinking that there was something I was supposed to do, but not knowing what. Or else knowing there was too much left to do and unable to decide where to start.

I had never had surgery before this. Well, I'd had my upper wisdom teeth out (didn't have lowers) but I don't count that. I was very nervous about everything, particularly the anesthesia. But after I said "see ya later" to my husband they started the drip and I don't remember anything after that. I remember being rolled down the hall, but that could have been before or after surgery for all I know. I just decided to place myself in God's hands (and no, I don't mean the Doctor LOL) and let go.

Before I went in, everyone kept telling me I would be fine, the surgery would be fine, I would be okay. Sometimes I wanted to sock them and say "how do you know?" but I didn't. Others said they'd be praying for me, and that was a much more comforting thought.

So I'll be praying for you, and others, who are having this surgery.

Nervous and scared--Wed. is the day

Hey Bunnylover
I will be right there with ya on Wednesady...I have to call the castle tomorrow afternoon to see when they request my presence. My doc said I am one of the first to go in that morning..sooo either 7:30 or 9 AM I will become a princess. I took the day for myself today while the kids are in school. had my nails done ( in pre op they told me they can use my toes for the monitoring clips..just no polish on the nails) a facial and a wax..what the hay I figured I prepared for everything else so why not practice a little in the pampering dept...besides it was a good way to get away from everything and relax a bit. We all have something running in our heads right about now I'm sure..so with that tomorrow I shall raise my glass of fleet soda and toast all us 5/19 princesses "HERE'S TO SPEEDY RECOVERIES MY SISTERS", "LET THE PAMPERING BEGIN!!"
Bless you all

Bunny Lover - I am May 20th LIW and I can completely relate to what you are feeling. I was very positive and calm until this morning and now (although I am still being very forward thinking and not having second thoughts), I am feeling pretty panicky and stressed again today.

Lovely - that is my only fear also - I know that between my willpower and the doc's good drugs, I can deal with whatever happens on the other side, no matter how awful it might seem at the time...

I keep thinking of going to visit my sister in the hospital after her hyster (about 10 yrs ago). She was in excruciating pain from the gas - since reading so much lately, I keep asking her "well, did you try this, did you try that"? She keeps saying - "no, I never knew about all those things". Thank goodness for this board and all our sisters - I have learned so much and am so prepared that I'm sure that's the only reason I'm still sane

Good luck to you all - you will have my prayers and healing thoughts and be sure to let me know how it goes.

Nervous and scared--Wed. is the day

BunnyLover,
I'll be there with you on Wed. also. I was very nervous until this weekend. I've had so much to do to get ready for the castle that I haven't had time for nerves.
My DBF and I are going to the baseball game (Go Cincinnati Reds!!) Tues. night so I've been focusing on my last night out for a while. I think it will help to be out instead of sitting around the house dreading the morning. Try getting out. Enjoy doing something that you know you won't be able to do while recovering. I think I'm going to go out and rollerblade with my dd's after work (if the rain holds off). Enjoy what you can now and relax when these things are off limits

Hang in there!!

Thanks to all of you so much!

I did go out today -- got my nails done, bought a few pampering items for recovery, took a nap, etc. All of that really helped. And, of course, having your support and knowing others are and have been through this is such a comfort! I'm praying for you all and will especially have other 5/19 princesses on my heart!
