8 weeks post hysterectomy... What is normal??

I'm 8 weeks post op. I had a vaginal hysterectomy and a sling. It's been a slow recovery for me. My doctor had to put some silver nitrate on my vaginal cuff because of granulation but gave me the green light.

I'm still really sore and hurt a lot when I do to much. I'm still not regularly lifting my 22 pound baby and haven't vacuumed but I have done dishes, laundry and normal housework. Is it normal to hurt this far along? People keep asking me if I'm back to normal. I'm not even close.. Do I just lie?

Re: 8 weeks post hysterectomy... What is normal??

It's so hard to know what is normal and IMO depends exactly on what you had done. I'm feeling much better but still have issues with gas and rectal pain after a bm. I also find it uncomfortable to sit upright for too long hence havent driven very far yet. I had a lot of excision of endo as well as a LAVH but I know others who had no endo have had a much faster recovery. I think the key is to take it at your own pace as I know when I compare my recovery to others who are further on it makes me anxious.

Re: 8 weeks post hysterectomy... What is normal??

Healing slow, healing fast...it all is normal. Some of us are blessed to breeze through, while others take longer. My pace was much slower. In fact, I am still working on my pelvic floor strength. I hope this is the final hurdle in my recovery. I had swelly belly for about 6 months among other hurdles to jump. I always kept in mind that while I may not be 100%, I felt so much better that before the surgery. I also kept telling myself that I was less likely to do accidental damage to myself since I was healing slower. Best of luck on the rest of your recovery.

Why would you lie? Tell the truth and let them take care of you. You've had major surgery, and are recuperating at your own pace.
And yes, pain still happens at two months. And I had soreness for months afterwards.
