If all goes smoothly with your procedure, you should be able to be driven to the hospital and sit in a comfortable chair, supported with pillows and your blankie and whatnot. Take your pain meds, don't do ANYTHING for yourself, and keep all your other activities to an absolute minimum, and you should be able to handle spending some time there.

If there are complications of any kind, all bets are off. Darn I'm sorry things are going this way for you and your family. You'll be in my thoughts

One caveat: Please be ultra super extra careful about hygiene when you go visit your dad. Wash your hands like a fiend, use hand gel, and change all your clothes when you get home. Hospitals are among the best places to get really bad bugs.
