pre-op prep?
Hi, all I had to do at home was no eating after midnight. After I got to the hospital, I was given an enema and a betadine douche ( did that myself ). Each dr does seem to have his/her own preferences and it's important to do exactly what yours has ordered, no more or less
Best wishes.

pre-op prep?
Hi ,
I was told to eat what I normally do until 8 pm the night before surgery, with no water after midnight. No bowel cleansing of any kind. I did not have any problems.
My same Dr gave a friend of mine different orders, which included restrictions and enema.
It is very important that you follow what ever instructions your Dr gave you. He/she based her decision on your surgery and your health. Some have had their surgeries cancelled because they self-prescribed an enema which made them too dehydrated or threw their electrolytes off for surgery. The only medical advice you should be following right now is your Dr's.
s,
Kay

pre-op prep?
I can't eat a thing all day the day before my TAH I have to do an oral enema at 2pm and I have to take 2 courses of 2 different kinds of antibotics starting at 5pm that are supposed to be taken with food, on an empty stomach (I am allowed gravol) and then to top things off I have to take 2 laxitives at 10pm...I am allowed only clear liquids all day but then it's no nothing after midight.....Does that sound normal???....If I survive...I"m gonna barf for sure ....I am more afraid of that, than the surgery it'self.....and that all starts tomorrow.......all the best for all your surgeries & recoveries ...Sweetleaf

pre-op prep?
I did not have any bowel prep at all. THANK GOODNESS! Just no food or water after midnight. I only ate light meals a few days before surgery and weaned myself off caffiene -- I think it really helped me. Good Luck on 9/20! Its true what they say -- waiting is the hardest part! Callie

pre-op prep?
I didn't have any prep at all...I had TVH. Nothing after midnight to eat, but I had nothing else even at hospital that morning, no enema or anything (while I was awake anyways). If they did it while I was sleeping, I never knew.

pre-op prep?
I had no prep to do. Just no eating or drinking after midnight. I assume they did the prep for me in the OR. Follow your Dr's orders and don't do the prep unless he asks you to.

I had to go into the castle the day before and stay overnight just to do the bowel prep! I guess they didn't trust me
