Weight loss...who else has experienced this???

I am just wondering who else has experienced weight loss after surgery. I am 4'11 and before surgery weighed 90 pounds so I am a tiny little gal....I now look aneroxic!! Last time I weighed myself I was down to 83 pounds!! What the heck is up with that?? Will I gain back what I lost?? I eat all the time and hate the fact that I am way too skinny. My whole family is concerned and they have been giving advise on how to "fatten me up". I even had a friend tell me to have my thyriod checked.
Anyone else out there having the same problems???

Weight loss...who else has experienced this???

I lost about 11 pounds after surgery over the first couple of weeks. I think it was both the surgery and eating less because I always felt full and never hungry. I have put on about four pounds of that back but it keeps going up and down.

Weight loss...who else has experienced this???

Hi Girls,

I had to weigh myself after hearing of you two loosing weight. I lost only 4 pounds since the surgery, which was July 18th, but believe me I am not complaining!
Itty, I am sure you will start gaining your weight back, it will take time, just don't fret too much over it.

I originally lost about 11 pounds too... but I've gained about 5 of those back. Unlike you, I started out about 15-20 lbs overweight, so I don't mind losing the weight....

Have you talked to your doc about certain foods or protein drinks or anything to help you gain some weight back?

Weight loss...who else has experienced this???

hi Itty. i also lost weight after surgery, aboout 12 pounds to be exact. i wasn't over weight to begin with (145) but wasn't sad about losing it either.=) it just gave me the incentive to eat better and walk more, so i could keep it off.

one woman on here wrote that her doctor told her our metabolism kicks up after major surgery like that, as a part of the healing process. along with the loss of appetite, i believe that's where it came into play.

you were a tiny person to begin with, so i would think that your metabolism was already pretty high. but beings you are so tiny, it might not be a bad idea to add in some kind of meal supplement, such as Ensure, or something, to help with getting your nutrients.

you may just want to mention it to your doctor. i'm not sure what all a thyroid problem entails, so it might be a good idea to get checked out.

best wishes to you. <3

I too lost weight.

When I weighed in at the hosp it was 125. At my post op, I'm down to either 117 or 119 I can't remember. I'm 5'6 so I feel like I look like olive oil! My doc suggested drinking boost, or carnation instant breakfast. They feel you up & give you lots of good vitamins.

Thank you all so much for your replies...glad to know I am not alone here!!
I have tried Ensure and it gives me the poops. (TMI).
I will just keep waiting and weighing myself and hopefully I will gain my weight back. I guess I just have to have patience and remember I am still healing!
's to all the ladies here!! And again thanks so much for your support I don't know what I would do without you!!!

Weight loss...who else has experienced this???

I noticed about 3 weeks after my surg. that I too was loosing weight, not breaking my heart since I wanted to loose ayways, but what is annoying is that I lost for 3-4 weeks, then I stopped then I gained for 2 weeks and now I am at a lost as too what my body is doing. I want to cont. to loose b/c I gained with my PG and so I am about 30 lbs overweight but now I can't seem to jump start my metabolisum. PLus I have all these questions and no one to really answer???

Weight loss...who else has experienced this???

I was 126 before the surgery and now I am 119. I think most of my weight loss is due to the infection that developed. But after being on the antibiotics for 4 days now my appetite is still messed up. I can either eat one big meal in the morning or munch through out the day. My boss is upset because at 5'7" I, too, look like Olive Oil from Popeye.

I am not complaining - I have been tryin on my clothes and they fit much better (to include my bathing suit)
