uncertain
Im scheduled for 7/10 tAH, due to fibroids, pain, and heavy bleeding. I do not want my ovaries out. My DR says that when she goes in, if she sees anything abnormal with the ovaries, will take them out and then send them to pathology, I am anxious about this, has anybody gone through this uncertainty? excuse my spelling!!

Nuny-
Well I didn't want to go in there with no idea. I was told the same thing. I went home and decided to have them remove everything. I was a little worried about having cervix gone too, but for me it just seemed like the best choice since I'm 45, was beginning to go through peri-menopause, was having painful sex due to cysts, and chance that they'd need to go back in a year or two. (The thought of another surgery just didn't sound good). It turned out that he would have taken everything anyway. Scar tissue and other stuff there that doesn't show up on ultrasound. I think age is the big factor when considering the ovaries. I didn't need that to make me anxious. Hope someone comes along to help you with your anxiety. HUGS

In the same situation
It is walking a fine line with this health issue and our ovaries.
Mr. Dr. told me the same thing, I am scheduled for July 9th for a tah. After finding this site and researching as much as I could, and a second opinion from my primary care dr. who I love, at 41,
my age, I could have 5 to 10 years worth of life on my ovaries. There has not been a woman in my family that could take hormones and has just suffered though it. I do not like the thoughts of putting in more meds. in my body after recovering from this surgery. I want to be healthy again.
I have fibroids and a big cyst on my left ovary, my right ovary is fine. She said the same thing your dr did to me as far as once
she get's in there, "she will see" well I told her it was very important to me that I keep at least one ovary and the right on has never caused me any problems. I also said to her that I would be given a copy of the pathology report to back up her decision to take both ovaries. My dr. knows how important this is to me and I'm going to fax her on Monday to remind her again, I don't care, this is my body. I have put this surgery off for 3 years and have gotten to the point that my blood supply is feeding my fibroids and can only do minor task without feeling like I've had the wind knocked out of me, please don't let it get to that point, I truly regret that.
This time next week, we will begin a new healthy way of living through the healing process, which if you read the post, as many as you can, you will see, it's not's so bad. It beats living your life not being healthy.
Tell your Dr. again and again and remind her that you want to see a copy of the patholist report, I don't think she would take a
healthy ovary if not necessary, but again, sometimes woman with fibroids and cysts have endo too, and dr's don't know until they get in there, as my MOTHER keeps reminding me, so that I won't be so disappointed should I wake up without my ovaries!!
It' all out of love, of course.
I hope this helps! Godspeed!
Much Love,
Sister41

Keep ovaries?
I just had a LAVH on 7/2. I had a terrible time deciding on whether to keep my ovary or not. (I only had one left). I decided to let the DR decide. He said it looked healthy and left it. I know it had only been 3 days since my surgery but I feel really good. I cannot believe it. It is going to be hard for me to stay down. Good luck!!!!!!!!!
