Re: I had two cups of fluid drain from my abdomen!!!

The closet hospital is 5 mins away, but I am a veteran so I have to go to the VA and the closet one is an hour and a half to 2 hours away! I do not have insurance, but everything is free through the VA for me. The distance just stinks. If it was a true life threatening emergency I could go to my local hospital and the VA would cover the fees, otherwise I have to travel.

Re: I had two cups of fluid drain from my abdomen!!!

I can understand not wanting to drive in a major snow storm. I hope you are feeling better today and not continuing to have this much drainage from the site. If it is continuing, I would call your doc or whoever is on call. If they need to see you, then please go even if you have to go by ambulance. I would not wait if the doctor feels you need to be seen. Hopefully you are doing better today. Sending lots of hugs

Re: I had two cups of fluid drain from my abdomen!!!

Hi! As you can see from my signature, I also dealt with a hematoma (which was renamed a seroma when it didn't resolve) post-op. Mine was enclosed in my body, but the docs attempted to drain it three times and the fluid kept building up.

It really does seem strange when fluid rushes out of your body. It happened to me also -- in fact, I stood up and looked down to see my legs covered in blood! -- but it can happen. You did the right thing in calling the doctor right away.

I hope your seroma resolves on its own, which is what happens most of the time. It can be frustrating, since sometimes seromas take weeks or months to reabsorb.

I hope you're feeling better soon.

Re: I had two cups of fluid drain from my abdomen!!!

Just feeling sore today, but it does feel like it might be filling back up with fluid. My incision feels more sore! I'm gonna keep an eye on it, its my anniversary plus the snow. I would hate to have to drive back to the doctors today, but how do I know when it is time to go? Feeling a lil confused right now and worried?!

Re: I had two cups of fluid drain from my abdomen!!!

If your incision continues to have more soreness, please call your doctor. That is a sign that something is not quite right. I totally understand about the snow.If you start running a temperature or just start feeling worse, call your doctor immediately. They will expect you to call if anything starts to hurt more, feel like it is filling back up, etc. That is why they are there. They can understand what is happening and tell you what to do. Sending lots of hugs and wishes for some real good luck.
