Scared and still 2 weeks away

I am new to this site and have surgery scheduled for 3/2. Dr's think it will be total abdominal - with ovaries and cervix removed. They want EVERYTHING out! I have had 3 prior abdominal surgeries so they don't think they can do a laparsc. surgery. I am scared...of the unknown, of losing some part of myself...of never feeling 'right' again, of the pain (I have an incredibly low tolerance). I am teary and distracted and no matter how many lists I make...the uncertainty surrounds me. Any advice?

Re: Scared and still 2 weeks away

Welcome and Hello!

Both your surgery and my TVH 6 weeks post-op is 3/2!! Eventhough I found out I could have the surgery 3 weeks after my Dr. found fibroids, I was relieved because I'd been suffering 3 years with my cycle. Pre-op I didn't feel wierd about having the surgery only because I knew that once I had it, I would hopefully be okay.

It will be my 4th week post on 2/16. So far so good, sometimes! I'm sure you will glide though this event in your own special way as we all have. I'm glad this site exists for us to share our feelings good and bad, and that we are able to feel somewhat at ease knowing we aren't alone.

I wish you well and look forward to hearing of your results!
Best of Luck!!!

Re: Scared and still 2 weeks away

Thanks so much 43scorpio! I am so glad I found this site as well. So much information and things that I had not thought about. I was feeling very alone and now to find so many wonderful, strong women who have come 'out the other side' and still have hope is just what I needed. Best of luck with your continued recovery! cincygirl

Re: Scared and still 2 weeks away

Welcome cincy! I had a TAH & am 2 weeks post op today. Like you, I was very scared and glad to find this site. It puts your mind at ease knowing so many women have made it through and I'm grateful that they were willing to share their stories to help the rest of us. Honestly, the pain wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be-still pain, but not as bad as I had built it up in my mind. Trust your dr. to give you good meds to manage the pain- My one piece of advise is to have someone (hubby, relative, or friend) stay with you until you are settled in a room and receiving the medication you should. I didn't get into a room until late & due to miscommunication from recovery to surgery floor did not receive the pain medication dr. ordered over night-that made my pain unmanageable for a while and the nurses would not listen to me (hubby had gone home to care for my daughter) I'm sure this does not happen often, but it would have been avoided had someone stayed with me-I was too weak to fend for myself. Good luck to you-you will do great
