Pre-op question...

Well, less than a day now. I'm scheduled at 3pm tomorrow. I am taking the bowel clense stuff and it is horrible! The doctor said I wasn't even allowed to have a flavor pack...wth! My question is when do you start to go? I have been downing this stuff every ten minutes (which is really nonstop since I can't drink it fast). It has been 1.5 hours and I have not been able to go. Any advice, is this normal???

Not to worry bookah212 I'm sure it will kick in soon I didn't have to go the liquid bowel cleansing route, my doc put me on a liquid diet for three days prior to my surgery (he had to do some risky work...my uterus was attached to my bowel by the endometriosis) and then I had to administer an enema the night before....I had to have been clean as a whistle

Oh, my heart so goes out to you. Thoughts and prayers are with you through this pre-op ordeal. When do you have to start NPO? 3pm surgery is soooo late. Very thankful mine is scheduled for 9am.

BTW, I did start to go... I'm finally feeling a little human. Instead of Go Lightly they should call it Runs Like a Faucet It wasn't as bad as I worked it up to be. I'm drinking some broth right now and it tastes like steak dinner.

Nevermind I googled it. Nothing to eat/drink after 9am but I'm still only allowed clear liquids. So guess what my dh and kids are eating???? Pizza

I am allowed my pain meds though.

Good luck on your surgery! Wow!! 3PM, what a long time to wait. Hang in there, your visit to the Castle will be over before you know it. I would try to keep some vaseline handy if you haven't tried that yet. Just a little pat after and it really saves your bottom. (doc taught me that for a Colonoscopy prep).

Lanolin and good ol A&D ointment (the stuff they use for babies bottoms) work very well too and help to heal the tender tissue, not just moisten/coat it.

Sorry about the NPO thing. Figured they'd used that term when they were telling you your pre-op instructions.

Again, we're here for you and if nothing else can help keep you occupied while you wait.

Thank you so much for your support and prayers. I made it through to the other side of the bowel prep. The worst part was drinking the stuff. I have 2 1/2 hours till I leave for the hospital. I'll post when I am feeling human again.
