Cervical Infection, 3 months post-op, Silver Nitrate.

I saw my doctor on Friday for post-op bleeding, pain and cramping. I am 3 months post-op LSH and I have been spotting/bleeding everyday since the beginning of November. What was once told to me a being "normal" turned into "abnormal" and I was told that I needed to be seen in the office. It turns out that I have a cervical infection and my doctor told me that my cervix was inflamed. As soon as he put in the speculum I started bleeding and he knew something was wrong. He applied Silver Nitrate to the cervix. He told me that it would burn and I could begin cramping but I did not expect much. Least to say, I almost passed out from the procedure. I immediately began cramping and then my entire body felt like it was on fire. He laid me back down with my legs elevated for a few minutes and then I felt ok. He told me that many women react this way and that I am not alone. He told me that I lost ALL color! Today I am still spotting so I don't know what the Silver Nitrate did for me. I cannot take baths or have sex for 3 weeks. As for the pain and cramping, I have to have a transvaginal sonogram done tomorrow to check on the ovaries. Here we go again!!!! I am just frustrated! Has ANYONE else gone through this?!

Re: Cervical Infection, 3 months post-op, Silver Nitrate.

I understand if you keep your cervix then you can still have periodic bleeding regardless if there is an infection.

I am familiar with the silver nitrate. I had to have it to heal my vaginal cuff and it took 3 treatments. Yes, very painful for me, with cramps and all.

I hope you feel better soon and your treatment will heal the infection.

Hopefully someone will come along that has had similar experience.

Re: Cervical Infection, 3 months post-op, Silver Nitrate.

I had my cervix removed along with everything else on 9/3. Today I had silver nitrate applied for the second time (first was a month ago) and will return in a week for the 3rd time. It hurt and I still have pain tonight! I have an area that just won't seem to heal. Even after they apply the silver nitrate, it usually takes a few weeks to heal. It didn't work for me the first time. I really should have had it done at the two month point, but they assured me that it could take 12 weeks to heal. I sure hope it works this time!! Not fun!!! I hope you heal soon.

Re: Cervical Infection, 3 months post-op, Silver Nitrate.

Hi my name is Lisa. Silver nitrate is frequently used on wounds in homecare. It is used on wounds that have too much granular tissue. If there is too much of the tissue, the would won't heal. Granular tissue is sort of like an overgrowth of healthy tissue which will prevent a wound from closing up. Hope that helps. Silver nitrate works very well and you should see some good healing now.
