Surgery on Feb 21st

Well, where do I begin....I guess from the very start when I was 15 years old, I discovered that I had a 5lb tumor that had to be removed immediately! Because it was so big they had to remove everything but a fraction of an ovary and one tube. Of course at that age I was not thinking about babies.

After I married in 1987 I got pregnant, but had a miscarriage. We decided to wait to try again and when we were ready, it was too late. I ran out of eggs and was in early menopause at 25 years old.

We tried IVF with donor eggs, etc. but nothing worked then we divorced. I married again and we also decided to try IVF, I had the remaining tube and little bit of ovary removed to clear my uterus for implantation.....but nothing worked... it just got too expensive so we finally gave up.

Since then I had been managing my symptoms with synthetic hormones, but was fearful of the damage long term use might cause (I had been on them now for over 18 years!) so I stopped taking them and tried every natural hormone replacement known to man! Nothing helped ALL of my symptoms till I started with the Bio-identical hormones about a year and a half ago. Things had been GREAT! I never felt better!! My symptoms were gone, I lost the weight I gained because of the hormone imbalance, THEN I started bleeding again...after 19 years of nothing! It was QUITE a shock to me! I was also diagnosed with HPV last year. Over the past year I have had bleeding, spotting, dull ache and occasional sharp pains (sort of like ovulation pain) down low..mostly on my right side. And I keep having these weak spells like I'm going to pass out....completely out of the blue...scary feeling!

So I went to my doctor to see what I should do....she ran a few tests which came back ok, then sent me to have an endometrial biopsy. I had that last Wed and I'm waiting to hear what the results are from that. She sent me to a specialist and she and I decided that it would be best to go ahead and have the hysterectomy since all I have left is my uterus and cervix anyway. SO my hysterectomy is scheduled for Feb 21st. That's it in a nutshell....I'm just hoping the biopsy comes out clean....how long does it take?? They told me about a week so that's tomorrow, but I'm just anxious...ugh!

Re: Surgery on Feb 21st

I'm having the LH on the 21st. I waffle between being very excited to do it and terrified. Reading the posts is alternately helpful and scary as some give me new things to worry about! Good luck to you both, hopefully we will have great stories to tell in the post op section.

Re: Surgery on Feb 21st

We are ALL going to be FINE!! Of course I'm scared too, but at least we have this wonderful site that we can encourage each other through!

By the way, my biopsy came back normal! Whoo hoo, now on to surgery! I am leaning (about 95%) towards letting them take my cervix....I'm just a little worried about how it might effect my sex life?? Hmmm
