Upcoming hysterectomy 5/8: Vaginal cuff and post-op vaginal canal length concerns

I'm concerned about this issue.

Noticed no difference. I do think the cuff can be tender as healing occurs. But I'm over 1 yr out and don't notice shortening.

I notice no shortening of my vagina whatsoever. After about a year post op, I tried to feel the cuff to see if it was bumpy or smooth and I couldn't reach it with my finger.

My surgical release did not specify shortening of my vagina nor did my GYN list that as a possible complication. I believe the only times 1-2 inches are removed is during a radical hysterectomy, in which cancer is present and part of the vagina needs to be removed.

Here's a link to a article about the vaginal cuff, and I was just reading another thread about this last night.

I'm sure the result varies individually w/ what type of surgery you have. I was told by my doctor that since he would be able to create my vaginal cuff internally (I had a DvH), my vaginal canal would end up a little bit longer than it used to be. That was great news to me b/c my Cervix was constantly getting hit during sex and of course that was always painful.

i haven't been cleared for sex yet, but I did have my first po internal exam at 3 wks po. I was healing perfectly fine and it was the very first internal exam that wasn't painful.
