What does BSO mean?

I went to the gyn Monday to set up everything for my hysterectomy and he wrote on my paper TAH/BSO. Just wondering what the BSO stands for. I'm getting a hysterectomy due to long history of abnormal paps. He really doesn't want to do the hysterectomy. I'm pushing for it. My labs show CN1. I've had one konization and three colposcopies. Have to have paps every four mos. Been doing this for three years now. Does anyone think I'm nuts for going for the hysterectomy? I didn't tell my doctor, but my left ovary has a dull toothache pain in, mostly when I bend over or am sitting and bring my knees up. I've also had lower back pain for about six months now, but that could be anything. Anyhow, I'm totally confused, scared and wondering if I'm doing the right thing. This seems so drastic, but I can't keep stressing. I no sooner get one pap done and wait for the agonizing results and it's time to go for another one. I only had one normal pap in 3 years and don't know about before then cause I wasn't at the gyn for 10 to 12 years. Any input or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

What does BSO mean?

Hi There!

BSO means removal of both ovaries. For a list of abbreviations, go to the "More Hyster Sisters" drop-down menu near the top right of this page (right beneath the lavender bar) and scroll down a ways. You'll see "Abbreviations." It's also listed under "Hysterectomy Info" which is right below the logo at the top left of the page.

In answer to your question, "Does anyone think I'm nuts for going for the hysterectomy?" I would probably have to answer..."No-ooooo -- remember to whom you are asking this question: We Hyster Sisters have either had a hyst or are preparing to have one, so, if you are nuts, then we pretty much all are!

Many s and Best Wishes to You!
