my extreme-hyster-make over
I'm going in for surgery on Oct 20th. This was the last thing I wanted to do.
Until I found this site and got pro-active in my surgery. I have up graded my bedroom for a long stay. Which I did after reading a princess' encounter with a long stay in a boring room. I have bought a bed wedge and have been trying it out. It works great so far and I rented a bed table. I have my monitor (flat screen, wireless mouse and key board) on it so I can use it after surgery.
I call this my extreme-hyster-make over because I'm looking at what I will be able to do after the recovery time. I wouldn't have to schedule my life around my peiords but not any more. It took me two years from the time my GYN told me I needed this surgery to being able to have it done. I had to change my attitude.

my extreme-hyster-make over
Tell me about it Weezy123,
I was told to have this months ago, but I needed to get psychologically ready for this. I'm trying to go forward but I'm still second guessing my self all the time.
You have a great idea about the table and computer etc. The thought of spending all that time in the bedroom is depressing. I'm hoping for a speedy recovery. No setbacks! I hope for the same for you!

I can understand the second guessing ones self. I did it as well, but as a praying woman I had to give it to God and asked Him to give me peace with having or not having the surgery. It was a couple of days after asking that I woke up one morning with such peace and knowing this is what I need to do and I have had a better time dealing with it since then.
Do what is right for you. You will have to live with the out come good or bad, not your Doctor or any one else. For me taking control of the parts of the surgery I had control over also has giving me more peace. I'm keeping my cervix and ovaies if they are ok. I sat back and just did what one other doc told me I needed and it almost killed me. That's when I became pro-active in my hystererectomy surgery. I know at least what to expect and my Doctor know what I want.
I'm praying that God gives you a great peace with your decision.

my extreme-hyster-make over
I love the extreme-hyster-make-over! I repainted the master bedroom (a nice soothing green called misty day)this weekend and am looking for a new ceiling fan - LOL!! The remotes are handy, as is my lab top.
I do want to get a wedge pillow - where did you find yours?
I'm nervous - TAH with ovaries on 10/28(16 week uterus- hopefully only giant fibroid). Too many vivid memories of C-sections 23-16 years ago!
I'm going to Barnes and Noble this weekend to buy the books I really want - the library will love the donations - later!
Trying to find the positive - thanks for the help.

my extreme-hyster-make over
I've got my laptop, too, and I've been trying it out on a bed tray....the kind you can eat on, with legs. I got two of them....one for the 'puter, so I don't have to lift it, and the other for eating, writing, etc. I've got a wirelas LAN at home, so I can even surf, once I'm able to sit comfortably....but I'll even be able to do it from my side, if I'm not.
I've reorganized everything to be within reach or only a short walk...and got all kinds of little short craft/needlework projects for Christmas.
It's silly, but I'm really looking forward to NOT grading papers. This past weekend was the last time until January. I'm passing everything along to my sub this weekend, so he can ask me any questions he may have prior to my being out of capacity and/or too dopey to speak coherently on the phone. I teach adults....4 days of 9 hour shifts a week, and half days on Fridays. I'm SOOO looking forward to the down time with no planning or grading. How 'bout you, Teach77?
Grace & peace,
Terry

my extreme-hyster-make over
I am feeling so much better about all of this. I also spent my weekend cleaning my bedroom. It is now all nice and clean. I talked to my DH earlier today about painting it. I went to the store and bought a new DVD/VCR player today because on my old one the VCR part was broken. I have been looking for the bed wedge (I also need it because I have horrible acid reflux that sometimes bothers me). I've got my laptop all ready...I've even ordered a new battery, and I've got my LAN connection. And I still have 4 weeks to go. Imagine what I will be able to get done in the rest of my house.

My extreme-hyster- make over
Terry,
I bought the pillow wedge at a medical health store for $35.00 and rented a hospital bed table there as well for about $33. a month ( I can movie it away from over the bed without lifting it). The place I rented it from delivered them and will pick up the table when I don't need it any more.
I also bought a abdomial support there because I have had three C-sections and I remember the pain well!!! The support wrap will help. I'm a plus size and the wrap will help keep the extra weight from pushing down on my incision.
Work? I work form my home, I'm a single mom, and I get one week off after the surgery. I'll be back to doing what I can the first of Nov. That is the plan any way.
I painted my bedroom and went out and bought new pictures of peaceful outdoor places. I add extra cable channels for three months as a reward to pamper me. I bought books I want to read as well and over the last few weeks I bought DVDs to watch after the surgery. My frezzer is full of TV dinners and miro food for my two teens so I wouldn't have to worry about cooking.
A freind loaned me a walker to use so I can get up from a sitting positom mainly the potty.
I think I'm ready

Weezy,
A good attitude is so important for recovery!! You sound like you have a great one.
I ,too, was given a great sense of peace about my surgery. Prayer is the key~you are right. Trusting God for your surgery, trusting God for all things is so very important. After all, He already knows the outcome of the surgery, so why worry? It seems Weezy, that you already know that, which gives you the security you need right now.
As far as going back to work after 1 week, does your dr know that? Mine originally said I might be able to go back after 4, today she is making me wait. It is exhausting to recover!! I am a single mom too, without enough disability time to stay home for more than 4 weeks, but I have to trust God for this too.
I would rethink your plan of returning to work after 7 days. Personally I don't think your body will be able to.
Keeping you in prayer!
Nancy

My exteme-hyster-make over
Nancy
Thank you for your concern.
I'm a graphic designer and I work out of my home. I have a great boss and I have a lot of flexiblity with my time. I have set up my bedroom with my work computer, so I can do what I can.
It's not the job that will get me into trouble. It's the duty house and laundry piles that I have to watch out for. I have someone coming in to stay with me for the first week then I'll be by myself during the day while my teens are in school. If I don't have something to do, I'll be cleaning. Three days after a vigors D&C, I was out raking up leaves and branches after Ivan went through. I paid the price. Er...so my work hopefully will keep me out of trouble with wanting to clean.
