Hi to all the wonderful hystersisters!
Well, it was a LONG time coming (to me) but my surgery date finally came (thurs 5/9/02) The day is kind of a blur, and I'm glad it's OVER.
First, I want to say... the waiting truly is the worst part. You can just get yourself so worked up over the littlest things. I ran a roller coaster of emotions, and know that I shared those feelings with MANY sisters out there.
I was lucky, in a way, and got to stay home until I got the phone call from the castle saying it was time. So when me and DH got there, it was nice not to have to wait around, and have more time to be afraid and fret.
Surgery for TVH (kept ovaries) was at 1 PM, I think I got to my room after recovery around 6 PM. Private room! whoo hoo!! they were so sweet, they kept my door closed and I never heard a peep of what was going on in the hallway.
I did suffer from nausea/vomiting from the general anesth. They tried to give me some different stuff, but once the "A" wore off I was fine. My biggest problem was that my bladder shut down, and I was in EXCRUTIATING PAIN from a full bladder pressing on my sore/raw innards. The nurse finally had to straight cath me, and I was sent home having to self cath, which I did from friday until yesterday. Then the wonderful news that I ended up with a UTI... so I'm on meds now to clear that up.
If it weren't for the bladder/UTI problems, I'd be feeling wonderful. I am grateful that they were able to do it all vaginally... they didn't even put any packing in because my doc said I hardly bled thru the procedure.
Oh, and as for what I took and used? Hah! I packed WAY more than needed... all I used were my own pads, and my bunny slippers.
I was honestly too sick and out of it the day after surgery to do anything like read. And I never even got to give the nurses their goodies until I was discharged... I was lucky to have had such a wonderful bunch of nurses tho. By 5 pm on friday I was ready to get OUT OF THERE!
I do suggest keeping Gas X on hand, it's helped me a lot since I've been home. Oh, and be careful about how much you strain to have that BM...
I just want to wish all the
lots of love and hugs. It truly does get better once you're on the other side!
Oh, and I've been such a good girl... drinking lots of water and cranberry juice, resting lots, and not overdoing it. Let's hope I stay that way! LOL!!
Best wishes and Bright Blessings!
Karen
