Please do not do anything without your doctor's approval. Some doctors don't require patients to do a bowel prep at all, others simply require an enema, and others opt or the mag. citrate. It's important to do only what your doctor tells you to do.

Several years ago a member took it upon herself to do a bowel prep without telling her doctor. She went into post-surgical shock and ended up in ICU because she had dehydrated herself with the bowel-prep and her doctor didn't know.

Please discuss any bowel prep with your doctor and follow his/her instructions to avoid unnecessary complications and possible traumatic outcome.

I was on clear liquids the day before surgery. At noon I had to drink the mag citrate (it's sour but it's not bad--mix it with sprite if you want), and at 6:00 I had to take a Dulcolax suppository. The morning of surgery, before I left for the castle, I had to give myself an enema.
