Post Op

I had my LAVH on Wednesday May 16th. I went home Thursday. I feel fantastic! I am walking around albeit slowly be I am up walking. My only complaint is constipation. I have driven, am not taking any pain meds. I am not lifting at all. I am waiting on the pathology to confirm or deny possible ovarian cancer. But I must again say I feel fantastic! My doctor is wonderful.

Re: Post Op

Good for you that you're up & around. Just listen to your body. You had major surgery and you need rest & heal. I found that large doses of Motrin gave me constipation. Also the perscription pain killers added to it. I found it helpful to take stool softeners daily and an enema a few times a week. The constipation tends to cause pain & pressure inside around your surgery sites. Hugs to you!!!

Re: Post Op

Thank You! I need much more rest than I am getting. I am trying to get my family rallied around but I am the "go to" person so much that they act like they are lost as far as what do or get annoyed. It is a good thing I am little tougher than I want to be. I can do the stool softeners but not sure if I can do the enema thing.

Re: Post Op

You said you had driven 3 days post op. Did your doctor clear you to drive?Even if off pain meds you may have foggy brain anesthesia effects still going on.My doctor didn't clear me to drive until 2 weeks post op plus being off pain meds.

Re: Post Op

I was sent home with a script for pain meds but I have not needed them at all. I do understand that some do experience that post surgery fogginess but I (thankfully) have not. I have only had residual nausea. I am having to constantly remind myself that I just had surgery. I feel fantastic. I am only a tiny bit sore as far as my tummy from the laproscope but I feel really, really great. I also am not driving all over town, but only drove my daughter the four blocks to her bus stop.

Re: Post Op

I am so glad your feeling so well. Good for you!Are you still having BM issues? I never did the enema thing. After much experimenting what worked for me was 2 Colace stool softeners a day and 1 TBS Milk of Magnesia each day. I kept this up for about 5 weeks.Worked like ahRM.

Re: Post Op

Oh boy! Thank You so much for the tip. Yes I am still struggling with constipation. I am trying to be so careful to not strain (I do NOT want to have to go back for repairs!) I had tried a very minimal dose of exlax only to not get into a bad situation but I will try the two doses of colace & milk of mag. Exercise is the best for these things but since I am pretty much restricted for the next 4-5 weeks that is not an option.

Re: Post Op

Use this medication only when needed. Do not use this product for more than 1 week unless directed by your doctor.

Relief is usually seen in 1 to 3 days.

Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.

Please do not take more than the recommended doseage of Colace or use it for more than one week without checking first with your doctor.

Re: Post Op

Walking can help get the bowels moving I have heard. Exlax is pretty harsh, I'd back off Exlax unless directed by your doctor.

Re: Post Op

Miralax is very gentle and a number of surgeons recommend it. My 90 grandmother was given it after a recent procedure. I was taking milk of magnesium but I couldn't handle that chalky taste. I went to Miralax and love it. It is nonhabit forming, non cramping. You mix it in a drink once a day, usually in the morning I'd put it in water or some kind of juice. It also contains a stool softener so really good product.
