Bleeding at 10 days post op
Hi ladies,
It's 10 days since my LAVH and it went wonderfully.
My recovery has been going well, until today - I've started to bleed quite a bit. My mother tells me it's normal, but I would have thought it was more normal a day or two after the operation.
I'd appreciate your thoughts and experiences.
Thanks
Kate

Bleeding at 10 days post op
Hi Kate,
I really depends on what 'quite a bit' means. My understanding is that it isn't abnormal to have some spotting as sutures start healing and coming lose. If this at all resembles a period I think it is too much blood. Many of us,including myself had episodes of finding tinges of blood on the tp, and even some light spotting.
At only 10 days post op,I would call the dr and ask about this if it's more than what I have described here. It may be nothing more than you doing too much and your body sending you a signal to slow down. That isn't uncommon either and not usually a problem as long as it stops right away when you get off your feet and rest.
Let us know how you are.
's, Rita

Bleeding at 10 days post op
Thanks Rita,
It's enough to need to change pads about every three hours or so.
I'm a bit baffled, as to why it's started now, when I haven't had any bleeding at all, even one day post op.
Yesterday was very dark 'old' blood but now it's very very bright red. My plan is to stay in bed and hopefully it will ease up when I rest.
Thanks
Kate

Get in for an assessment if the blood is bright red. I don't think it is the time to wait it out and be stoic. It is not being a whiner to make sure everything is okay.

Hi Kate,
I'm glad to hear you are resting. Are you soaking a pad in 3 hours? If so it's still too much. If you are and it continues please call your on call dr. You're worrying me
If you are bleeding bright red blood in any quantity it could mean something has torn and could need to be fixed. It never hurts to call and be sure. I know how much we hate to call if we don't need to, I'm the same way. If you are resting and it stops- great, but if not, please call and at least ask a dr about it.
Keep us posted.

Bleeding at 10 days post op
Hi Rita,
Thank you for thinking of me. I put off calling my doctor. I basically put my head in the sand and didn’t call my doctor until today because I so wanted the hysterectomy to be a success and I just wanted to move on with life.
He suspects there is an internal infection along the suture line and has me on two different antibiotics. I’m just so disappointed and down about it, but do feel a lot better now that some action is being taken and wish I’d called him three days ago.
Take care,
Kate
