5th week, bleeding TMI

I'm in my 5th recovery week. Surgery was 11-29. I've been doing terrific, until today. I've become constipated, and really didn't think too much about it. Well, I have been straining to go, but nothing crazy. I just got up from this last round, and I'm bleeding bright red, enough that when I wipe it shows up very well. Should I be concerned? Should I call the Dr, or should I wait and see? I've put myself back in bed.

Re: 5th week, bleeding TMI

I would probably ask my doc for some suggestions with the constipation. That may be causing the bleeding because you strained. Where was the blood from? If it is the rectum, I would think the straining is pulling something. I am on stool softeners and also use fiber supplements as well Otherwise I get hemorroids. If the bleeding increases, call your doc immediately.

Hi Zen, thanks for the reply. The bleeding is vaginal. My recovery has been terrific, until today....

Re: 5th week, bleeding TMI

I would go back to stool softeners and plenty of water for a couple of days. I learned that it will happen on its own. But straining can cause pressure on your cuff, which can cause bleeding. It should stop, but definitly call the Dr or get to the ER if it gets worse. Otherwise, just put yourself back into recovery mode for a day or 2 and count it as a lesson learned.

Thanks Youngzebra! I've started Miralax again. I'm atill bleeding, but hasn't gotten any worse thankfully. I've been so careful while healing! Then POW! One day of constiipation, and I'm down aagain. So frustrating!

Re: 5th week, bleeding TMI

It hasn't stopped yet, darn it. I laid around all day taking it easy, too. Soooo......it looks as if I may put in a call to my Dr in the morning. I've got some pain, and things feel swollen and "heavy" in a weird sort of way, but it hasn't progressed any further. Thank you for checking up on me Youngzebra! You're a doll!

Praying all is well with you and as always would love to know what the Dr thinks. Keep taking it easy until you know what's going on.
