Have I done too much? 3 weeks post hysterectomy

Hi , my name is Maria I'm 45 years old and I'm 3 weeks into my recovery of a Total Abdominal Full Hysterectomy with a sacral-colpopexy for prolapse. Up until yesterday I was feeling fine. I was given the ok to drive after my 2 week check up with the OBGYN/SURGEON. I'm not due back to see the surgeon for another 3 month check up. However by yesterday afternoon I felt swelling and pain and I am pretty much the same today. Is this normal? Am I found too much? Thank you all.

Re: Have I done too much? 3 weeks post hysterectomy

It may be that you have done too much. Many women say that week 3 feels like a "step backwards" week. Take it easy for a few days and see how you feel. Put your feet up, leave the housework, take your pain meds and use ice for the swelling. You're only 3 weeks into recovery for major surgery + repairs. Recovery will take some time. Increase your activities very gradually to avoid a setback.

Here is the link to your post op
Recovery Thread. This is a great place to recover along with other women who had surgery the same week as you.

If you're concerned about the pain and swelling or feel something isn't "right", please call your doctor for advice.

I hope you feel better soon!

sugarandspice, thanks for your comments, esp that many women consider Week 3 to be the step backward week. I thought it was just me. After my 2 week post-op appt I felt great--no problems etc. So I did more and after awhile....started feeling tired again etc etc. A friend stopped over and after we talked a bit, she asked if I needed "permission" to rest for another three weeks. LOL. So more resting for everyone Thanks again for your comments and support.

It can be difficult to know how much activity is right for us... Often we don't know where that line is until we've crossed it! You're still a and have lots of healing to do!

I really recommend joining your Recovery Thread, you will find you are not alone!
