What would you do to prepare if your TAH was scheduled for....
... Dec 26th .... ?????
I was just accepted in a Nursing Assitant program at our local hospital and in order to complete the training I HAD to take that Dec date for my TAH
I am running in circles because I will need to get everything ready and organized before the surgery, plus Christmas and Birthdays.
One positive note is that I get to be there for my first Grandson's First Christmas
Any advice, prayers... will be appreciated.

I think this could be a good thing! You might be so busy getting ready for Christmas it may leave you little time to worry about having your surgery.
I kept very busy prior too mine. There wasn't a spot I hadn't cleaned a room I hadn't redecorated..I even started repainting rooms trying to stay busy!! I felt it helped to stay busy.

What would you do to prepare if your TAH was scheduled for....
Hi there:
I'm scheduled for Dec. 13, so I'm a bit in the same boat. Others have pointed out to me that getting everything for holidays done before the surgery will keep me busy between now and then--and they are right. Starting lists has helped to keep me preoccupied--especially as my hormones do their rollercoaster thing. I NEED things to focus on and lists of things I can check off.

I might as well join in the wait with you. My surgery is not scheduled until November 26th. Actually it was my choice because I wanted to make it through football/cheer season, get my 8y well into his second semester (we have had some school challenges) and have Thanksgiving to do my holiday shopping and get everything together for Christmas.
Should we start a thread for us long waiters?

Hi Mercie -
Not to be a stick in the mud - but the 'biggest' negative might be the clear liquid diet on Christmas Day!!
The keeping busy with Holiday shopping and all would be good, as it doesn't leave time for nerves!
Make those lists and start checking them off!

What would I do? Scream. The less-than-a-month wait I've had is fairly going to make me crazy!
One more week!
(And LOL Debbie, I was thinking the clear liquids on Christmas day would be a deal-breaker for me!)
But back to your question: What would I do? I'm thinking I would clean out all the closets like I'd planned to do this month, instead of freak out and read everything I can about a hysterectomy! LOL
Hang in there!

I'm right there with you! I have been making to-do lists, and I'm scheduled for 2 days before thanksgiving. I told my hubby that I'm cleaning every room these next few weeks, and doing thanksgiving dinner the weekend before. I'm also going to work the day before I go in. I also came up with the idea to put out all my Christmas decorations the weekend before so I can come home to a pretty house and not have to get depressed 2 weeks later because I'm not up to decorating.
Enjoy getting your list checked off, but beware I hear that not always you get to finish your list especially if you have pain.
Congrats on your first grandson's Christmas!

Nichelmszt makes a good point and it is a good reminder for me...I am in pain almost all the time and very fatigued (still fighting anemia), plus I'm trying to recover from a clinical depression brought on by the hormone rollercoaster. So even as I make my list, I am aware that I need help almost as much beforehand as I will afterwards. I'm finally going to get someone to come in and clean the house every other week...and I've recruited some friends for a "workday"--as there are some big things I need to get done before I go in....like get my bedframe fixed and put up and get my mattress off of the floor.
Thanks for the wise reminder to take care of myself during this lead-up time. That may be one of the most difficult things for me.
By the way....I've started a separate thread called "long waiters" for those of us who are waiting to support one another....

I'm also having mine done on the 26th. I plan on precooking and freezing some food. Getting my tree up and leaving it up. Then wrapping up gifts earlier probably. If anything to just keep myself busy. Like that is hard with two kids and school lol! Wal-Mart already has their trees out so I bought a small table one that is fiber optic so I won't have to deal with the lights this year. I hate putting those things on. Then I have been cleaning and going through stuff.

What would you do to prepare if your TAH was scheduled for....
Good Morning!
Thank you so very much for all the good ideas!
I am going to start decorating early too. I am planing on pretty but simple this year. I know DH doesn't have the patience to put "things" away the way the go ...
I started on my attic yesterday. My theme is SIMPLIFY!!!! so I am getting rid of things that we haven't used lately, those things that you don't use that get stored in the attic so we don't have to deal with them. Any LadyFly sisters? I used to follow the FLY system but I fell of the "wagon or boat". I should start baby-steeping before the TAH.
Thanks again for all the advice!
I am making my list's and cheking them twice!
