numbness

Has anyone experienced numbness? TAH on May 17th 2013 and since surgery and still my thighs do not feel like mine. When I run my hand across my thighs, bare skinned. it feels like I'm doing so over jeans or something. Feels really weird but docs or nurses don't seemed very concerned. The area around my incision is still completely numb, unable to feel hot or cold sensations.

Re: numbness

Hi anenadsta! Give it time. The numbness will start to wear off as the anesthesia wears off and the nerves start to wake up. It may or may not fully go away. It depends on the person. You will be okay.
Have you been up and walking? Also make sure to drink plenty of water.
Soon you'll be able to go home and rest in the comfort of your own home. Have whoever pick you up, bring a pillow for the ride home. You can sit on it or put it between you and the seat belt because you will feel every bump in the ride on the ride home

Lots of ((HUGS)) to you

Re: numbness

Yes, the numbness is normal. It's been six months and most of mine has gone away, but there is stil 1/2" or so on the edge of my pubic area that does not have total feeling. I had lymph nodes removed and am told that there could have been some minor nerve damage. Once I was further along in recovery and could exercise (6 weeks) I think it got better faster. It is so weird how certain areas of your body or your systems get back to normal at a different pace. Who knew?

I am at 7 1/2 weeks and I still have numb spots on both thighs and around my incision. Dr said it should go away.

Re: numbness

Thanks so much for the feedback. I must say mentioning this to nurses and doctors, I get nomore than an eyebrow twitch from them. Thanks to you all I feel better about it and now expect it to be this way for a while and possibly forever in some areas.

((anenadsta))

I'm 8 years post-op and still numb, but the majority of ladies do regain some ~ if not all ~ of the feeling. I'm sending positive thoughts for the latter!

Have you found our <link> Post-Op Page yet? It's packed with information that addresses most commonly asked questions, including an article on this very subject.

Best wishes!

numbness

Numbness is very normal postop. The doctor have to cut through muscles and nerves to get the surgery done. I can take months for your feeling to come back. You just have to be careful when you put a wash cloth on the skin, to make sure its not to hot for your skin. Check the temperature of the water before you put it on the skin. Your feeling should come back slowly. Mine is still numb too, getting better though. I had surgery on 4/18/13. The nerves have to heal for your feeling to return. Nerves heal very very slowly.
