Weight Loss

This may be an odd question, and it might need to be in post-op, but I was wondering if anyone found it easier to lose weight once they had their hysterectomy? I've had issues with my thyroid as well for the past few years and it's become increasingly hard to maintain weight, much less lose it. Did the absence of a large uterus make you look thinner from losing bloat and mass? Or am I secretly hoping for too much?

Thanks,

Great question. It's something that I've been wondering about too. Hopefully the answers will be yes!

I would like to know that also.

My doctor told me I "MIGHT" lose some belly after my enlarged uterus is removed. But I was getting the idea he may have been talking about the PMS issues of bloating.

Weight Loss

I am insulin resistant due to the PCOS. I have complained of not being able to lose weight since my last child, when I had a tubal done. I had ovarian drilling done during my hysterectomy. I am now 11 weeks post op and I have lost 24 pounds, mostly from being very nauseated for weeks, even now every now and then. I was not able to eat very much for about 5 weeks. But I am still losing, so hopefully it happens for you too. I do walk everyday since week 3.

Weight Loss

All I can tell is what has happened to me. I am a fairly thin person. Since my lavh/bso, I have to work twice as hard to keep the weight off! I NOW consume 1200 calories a day. I do core and strength training M-Thurs and cardio Fri, Sat, and Sun. I havent been as good about doing the 3 days of cardio, it's really only been 2 consistently. Anyways, with all of this, I am able to MAINTAIN my weight. If I did all of this pre op, I would have dropped weight FAST.

I am only a few months out and not on any HRT. So I guess it might be different. But, I am working at it the best I can.

Everyone's body is going to be different. See you on the post op board soon!!!!

Weight Loss

I lost a few pounds right after my tah/bso. I've managed to maintain my weight since then ( over 6 years ago ). I stay pretty active & that helps. I'm also still on hrt, but at a very low dose now.
I think that weight issues can really vary quite a bit depending on each person's personal lifestyle and health.

Weight Loss

I think it's unique to each person. I've lost about a pound a week since my hysterectomy without even thinking about it or trying. I'm not exercising yet as my surgeon suggested I not do any exercise until at least 6 weeks after the procedure. I do walk a lot though.

Once I've been cleared by my surgeon (hopefully at my next visit in February) I'll start low impact aerobics, Pilates and back on the eliptical.

I've gained a LOT of weight over the last year due to a lot of pain/bleeding brought on by every exercise session so I'm very glad to see it slowly dropping off.
