Post menopause hysterectomy

Hi!

I am 65 and have never had trouble with my uterus. My problem is severe hyperplasia that my doc says could turn into cancer. I have no symtoms, so it's hard to contemplate going into surgery and feeling awful, because I feel fine now! I had a D & C and hysteroscopy a week ago, and the biopsy showed the hyperplasia but no cancer (yet). Both my gyn and primary doctors (both women) strongly recommend I do this. I plan to keep my ovaries, even though they are long past active, because they may still be doing some regulation and there is nothing wrong there (as far as we know). My ob-gyn is leaving that choice up to me. I hope to have a vaginal hysterectomy, with both the uterus and cervix removed.

Anyway, I would like to hear from anyone like me, with similar age and situation. Surgery is scheduled June 12.

Thanks!

Post menopause hysterectomy

I was 54 and post menopausal when I had a tah/bso for hyperplasia and precancerous uterine tumors. I didn't have a choice about keeping my ovaries because of the precancer. I went into a pretty drastic "surgical " menopause even though I started hrt ( estrogen only ) the day after ny surgery. It evened out with some adjusting of the dosage. My dr explained that the ovaries do continue to produce after menopause just at a reduced rate. I'd have kept them, given a choice.

I was also not given a choice about the type of hyst. My dr did a tah so that he could look around and check any possible extra problems. He didin't want to chance missing any possible "stray" cancerous conditions. My pathology did come back benign

Best wishes.
