Dealing with pain. Worried about moving over on my sides to avoid lower back pain from laying down. I find every position is painful and I'm unable to sleep.

Surgery with DaVinci yesterday, having very little pain, moving around great. Toradol for pain is great, doesn't make me fuzzy headed. Just waiting now to get discharged and go home for a shower and snuggles with my family.

Seven and a half hour surgery yesterday. They nicked my bladder with the DaVinci machine. Had to have it repaired. Now I have a catheter and bag for the next two weeks. I have quite a bit of gas pain and am trying gas-x. I hope it helps!

Had my vaginal hysterectomy with bladder sling yesterday. They also cut my bladder trying to get my uterus out. They did repair on it also. I also have to wear a catheter for a week. Im finding it very uncomfortable because i feel like i need to pee all the time and have a lot of pressure. Im using oxycontin for pain. I dont have much if an appetite and am somewhat nauseated.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 28-May 04,2014
I'm 11 hours post-op (TVH) and absolutely amazed at how good I feel. I have back pain from the surgery positioning and some abdominal cramping. I'm on Toradol every 6 hours and I get 2 Percocet every 4 hours. I've emptied my bladder several times and passed gas. Yay! Hoping to go home early tomorrow.

Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Apr 28-May 04,2014
I had TVH with a&p repair yesterday. After my urodynamics study, my surgeon determined that I didn't need a bladder sling. So far everything has gone very well and I feel much better than I ever expected to.
We arrived at the hospital at 5:45 a.m., and I was in pre-op by 6:15. Everyone has been phenomenal. The nurse got my IV on the first try, which is unprecedented for me.
I had my pre-op appointment with anesthesia on Friday, and had already settled on general anesthesia. The computers were acting up, so she had taken all her notes on paper, intending to enter them once things came back up, but that apparently they never got fixed before she left.
Since my anesthesia info wasn't in the computer when I got to pre-op, a different anesthesiologist came to consult with me before surgery. After looking over my records, he assured me that I was still a good candidate for a spinal block, even though I'd had two unilateral epidurals in the past, one of which involved a dural puncture and spinal headache.
He spent several minutes explaining the differences to me, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each. After his reassurances, I decided on spinal. I was given the choice of being in twighlight sleep, but being awake and groggy didn't bother me at all. The spinal was done quite painlessly, but I was pretty groggy during that part. I kept watching my vital signs on the monitor throughout surgery, and talked to the nurse anesthetist several times. There was a blanket on my chest which blew warm air, and also had a fan that drowned out a lot of the talking during the procedure.
My procedure was scheduled for two hours and ended right on time. I kept checking the clock on the monitor to see how much time had passed. Once it was done and they took the screen down, it was strange to see my legs in stirrups and not feel them. They estimated that I only lost 250cc of blood.
Everything went smoothly, and I went to the PACU for about two hours. I got really nauseous from the morphine that was put into my spinal right near the end of surgery, and I started to sweat so much that they cooled me with wet washcloths and gave me a new gown.
After I got back enough feeling to be able to bend both knees, I went to my room. The ride to the room made me more nauseous, so I ended up lying very still for an hour or two once I got into my bed. I had taken Emend in pre-op, got Zofran in my IV right after I got to PACU, and my nurse gave me phenergan as soon as she was able, and that finally did the trick.
I have only had Motrin since getting to my room, but just asked for something a little stronger as I'm getting crampy and the packing is supposed to come out in two hours.
So far so good!
