3.5 weeks post hysterectomy: Is this normal? Very emotional.

Hello! I am 4 weeks post op. I have found myself way more emotional than I have been in a long time. I just cried at some stupid video on Facebook. And not tears, I'm talking ugly cry. I haven't ugly cried (before surgery) in forever. I find myself doing it now though. Is that normal? I had everything but ovaries taken out. I'm sorry if this is a silly question.

Thank you.

Re: Is this normal? Very emotional.

Yes, this is very normal! Coping with emotions post op is one of the most challenging parts of recovery for many of us. Even if we keep our ovaries they sometimes don't work very well for the first few weeks. I cried uncontrollably post op, but I leveled out at about 6 weeks. I still was emotional, but at least I had some control.

Re: 3.5 weeks post hysterectomy: Is this normal? Very emotional.

I'm no expert, but I can't imagine this isn't normal!!
But my surgeon likes to say "There's nothing NORMAL about surgery".

We have been through A LOT!!!

For what it's worth, my hormones are being looked at (I'm only 8 days post op and kept my ovaries, too) because they can get "messed up" during surgery. Would it make you feel better to get your levels checked too? I'm not sure if anything can/will be done if they are elevated, but it's good to know, right?

I am generally an emotional person, very empathetic, a "crier", and it's almost funny to me that I've been fine since surgery (except for the night sweats). I'm saving a tear jerker movie to watch later this weekend (The Fault In Our Stars). That should get me going!!! I hear there is no way you can't cry, lol. I'm looking forward to it.

At the end of the day, we are all just people doing the best we can. Emotion is never wrong. It's ok to feel what you are feeling! Hang in there!!

That's how I felt too. I cried for hours at a time. I yelled at DH and slammed doors. I think he just stood there with his jaw dropped. I never behave like that.

Hormones are very powerful. I had no idea until after my surgery. I felt I had no control over myself and I didn't feel like me at all.

The blood supply to our ovaries gets disrupted during surgery. It can take a little while for the blood flow to re-establish. Once it does and your ovaries wake up, you'll feel like you again.

If you're having troubles or really concerned, talk to your doctor.
