spotting after 2yrs 4 months
i had a tvh in dec 2002. the best decision i've made in years and this site was such a help pre op and in the weeks following. last weekend i felt cramping in my back and legs and thought, thats weird, it feels like those old period cramps. when i went to the rest room there was spotting on my panties. i spotting for 2 days and stopped. i had an aquaintance that once told me she had a hysterectomy and after 5 yrs started hemmoraging and discovered that it had grown back and they had to do an emergency hysterectomy. now i am kind of freaked out. this was not hemmoraging by any means, but its got me freaked out a bit. i keep wondering since it was done vaginally, could they have left a bit? how often does it grow back in women? has anyone heard of this? back when i had the surgery i asked my doctor what it was like "up there" and she said they sew it shut like sewing shut the top of a tube sock. so in my mind i think in the unlikely event that it did grow back, how did any blood get out? or am i totally wrong on this. i hate being so ignorant about my own body. any thoughts? thanks.

Hi,
Actually, a uterus doesn't grow back. There may be some endometrial tissue from the inside lining of the uterus that can grow in places outside of the body and which can cause spotting or bleeding, but the full uterus itself won't ever grow back again. (In your friend's case, it's possible that she may have had two uteri, and the first surgery only removed one of them.)
You definitely need to give your doctor a call. Spotting this long after surgery isn't normal and needs to be checked out as soon as possible.

Lisa

if endometrial tissues grow amuck, what do they do about it? i was anemic for so many years and it took 2 iron iffusions after surgery to get me up to speed, so i need all my blood! lol. but i work 60 hours a week, so the thought of fitting in a doctors appt, to have her say, well thats what it is and theres nothing to be done about it just seems like a waste of time and money. can they fix that kind of problem?

Hi again,
Yes, there is a treatment for endometriosis. The tissue can be cauterized or removed, or there are medications which can be used.
But by all means, get this checked out. It might not be anything, but there's always the possibility of something more serious that needs to ruled out first.

Lisa

Hi Lori ~
When did you have your last vaginal exam?
I hope you see a Dr. soon..don't assume what your Dr. is going to tell you.
