Bowel problems

Hi,

I just had my surgery last Thursday, I think I'm probably trying to do to much to soon. I seem to be having problems going to the bathroom, urinating is fine it's the other part that I have problems with. Dr. has me on stool softeners but it doesn't seem to really be helping.

Any sugguestions.

Hi easterlb, senacot helped me a lot. Also high fiber like prunes and lots of water. When I was up to it walking helped. My constipation started later like 4 weeks. How strange is that. I have to really watch now. I've been trying to eat more salads. Lots say the yogurt drinks help. I'm not so sure, but it might be worth a try. I eat oatmeal in the morning too. I hope you get some relief soon.

Are you still using pain meds? Pain meds can be constipating. You may want to give your doctor a call and let him/her know that the stool softeners aren't helping much.

Miralax worked like a wonder drug for me with no gas, cramping or anything. It also worked the morning after my first dose. It just produced daily normal comfoetable BM's.

I tried stool softeners, prunes etc. first with no luck.

The miralax worked great for me too! Also, eat prunes and fresh fruit, and lots of water. I would also continue taking the stool softeners for a while.
That should help, and you will feel so much better!!!!

Miralax worked great for me too..I seem to have a lot of gas discomforts in the evening. My good friend is also an MD and she said you need to allow your body 7 days from surgery to nothing but recover then begin to increase your activity as tolerated each day. She recommends to eat lots of salads and drink lots of water. Limit anything carbonated for a while. Also keep ahead of any discomfort with meds and the second week you will feel much better...

Try staying away from dairy stuff like cheese.
