partial hysterectomy after ablation

I had an ablation about 5 years ago. Until this year, it worked wonderfully. Then I started having very painful cramps before my "period" (though I didn't bleed). The cramps feel like contractions, mostly around my abdomen and lower back. I have 3 kids so I'm very familiar with cramps!

Anyway, I'm 41. I started experiencing pain during intercourse and during a pap test, I felt pain, so my ob/gyn suggested an ultrasound. During the ultrasound, they found endometrial fluid caught between scar tissue in my uterus (from my ablation). My doctor suggested a partial hysterectomy. That was last year. I told him I wanted to think about it.

Anyone else have this happen? Suggestions? I'm not sure where to go next . . . I would love to get rid of the uterus but will the symptoms go with it?

Oh! what do all the acronyms mean? I read the posts but don't know what they stand for.

Thanks! I'm new--just joined today.

partial hysterectomy after ablation

I have something similar. I'm 47. I had a Novasure ablation in March of 2005. On 9-27-05 I had a strong sharp cramp and w/in minutes it was all I could do to get to my bed. The doctors rulled out several things and then I had an exploratory and appendectomy which showed chronic appendicitis. But the "attacks" continued. They were different than before I had the appendectomy but still horrible. Even the touch of my blanket brushing agianst my abdomen hurts. Every bit as painful as the last stages of childbirth. My cervix has all but closed up. Then there is a little open space and then the uterus is as if it is pinched together. The doctor could only get into that first small section when she did a hysteroscopy and d & c. I have a history of complex hyperplasia so leaving unexplained fluid and a thickened lining in my uterus is not an option even if I didn't have the pain attacks. My doctor said she could try to get to the fluid guided by ultraosund but doubted it would be successful and had her doubts that my uterus would stay open after that. I had the misfortune of having a doctor that did not do a endometrial biopsy before the ablation. I asked her about it twice. I trusted her and now I am scheduled for a hyst. on 5-24. The last time I saw her she said, "I guess this shows me that I should do the biopsies first." Did your doctor figure out what the problem was fluid between the scar tissue and your uterus right away? They had a hard time figuring it out what they think is wrong with me. Please ask if you have any questions.

Hi Daxlou,

If you think you want to proceed with a hyst, I might suggest you ask your Dr. if you are a candidate for a less invasive hyst. Types are the LAVH, TVH, and the LSH, which I had. Generally the recovery time is shorter.

Here is a Hyster Sisters link that goes over the different types of hysts:

Best wishes. I had a partial hyst and I am still very pleased with my surgery results. One of the best things I ever did for my long term health.

Hi and to Hyster Sisters!

This link will take you to a list of our most common abbreviations: https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/vie...=abbreviations

As your situation is different than mine, I can not say if having your uterus removed would take care of your health issues. I sugget you search for as much information as possible about your condition, the pros and cons to a hyst, and also seek at least a second opinion.

Here is a link to a website with information and message boards for women who have ablation experience where you may also find some information that will be helpful to you: http://p076.ezboard.com/bendometrialablationboard.

Best wishes!
