Pap

I read that women still have paps after a hysterectomy. I heard they check the vaginal cuff. How do we know who should still have paps? I had a TAH with both ovaries removed. I only had 1 abnormal pap which I had abnormal cells (ASC-US). All the other paps were normal.

Thank you

Bernice

Re: Pap

Each doctor has his/her own protocol on this! I have two different GYNs and they have two different opinions!

Talk to your doctors about what is best for you! Also, talk to them about your own opinion and concerns.

I had several abnormal paps from my endometriosis. Thus, I had a pap every year for the first five years after my hysterectomy. Now I only have the actual pap every two to three years. I still have a vaginal exam as I still have my ovaries and my doctor takes a peek to make sure everything still looks okay!
