How long should the hubby be home for?
Hi Ladies,
I have mine in 17 days and we are trying to get squared away here. I have 3 young children 6, 3, and 2. With my last pregnancy I was on Bed Rest for most of it so the being down is unfortunately not new and we are ready for that.
What we need help with is how long until I can be on my own with them, the hubby was planning on going back to work exactly 2 weeks out? Will that be okay? We don't know how they are taking it out yet, I have a number of fybroids and the plan is lap right now but stomach is very much on the table.

Re: How long should the hubby be home for?
I had a TAH and would not have been able to mother three little ones for the first 4 weeks at least. Week 3 was actually one of my hardest recovery weeks. Hopefully your surgery will be less invasive. I would say 2 weeks of hubby being home is a great start. After that, perhaps a friend or relative could come and assist you with childcare so you can get the rest you'll need to heal. Also, lifting is a big no-no. You won't be able to lift your 2 year old for a while.

I didn't have children, so my hubby was home for a week. Although I was in the hospital for 4 days. I really could have had him at home for the next week as that is when problems started happening and my sister in law had to come and help me.

I would agree with children that young that you will need more help after DH goes back to work. You will be on lifting restrictions of probably 10 lbs for six weeks and 20 lbs for 8 weeks. These could be extended depending on how you feel. In addition, you will be very tired for quite a while, and will need help with cooking, cleaning, dishes, laundry, shopping, driving, etc. for several weeks.

Re: How long should the hubby be home for?
Right now the plan is a Laproscopic Hysterectomy (she wants to use the robot if its available), she is leaving the ovaries but taking the tubes. She was worried at my visit by the size of my uterus and said it might be too big to take out lap or vaginally. She said to be ready to wake up with the stomach one being done.
We have family here locally but they have medical issues of their own that really prevent them from helping much. Church will be bringing meals in.
My husband works 5 minutes from our house so if he goes in and I'm in trouble he can get home quickly for me. He will also be working from home during that time. He just doesn't have enough vacation time to take 3 solid weeks off.
