First Road Trip

Today has been 4 weeks since my LAVH. Tomorrow we are taking the first trip away from home (an hour or so) to my brother's for a birthday celebration. Wish me luck in making this trip. The furthest I've been away from home is 20 minutes and people tell me riding long distances is the hardest.

Maybe you could stop somewhere after 30 minutes to stretch. I had a TAH on Dec. 13th and mad a 4 hour trip to my parents for Christmas. We stopped every hour or so and I did all right.

I had my TAH on the same day as you. Today I drove myself to my mothers which is about 45 miles away, and then we we shopping in her hometown. Of course, the shopping trips were short drives, and we walked around a bit. I then drove back home. I'm tired, but not hurting. Just pace yourself and if you feel the need to get out an walk, stop and do so. If you go shopping and get tired, find a place to sit for a little while (you can alway "check out" the new recliners in a furniture section or better yet, treat yourself to a hot fudge sundae in the ice cream shop!)

I went to Mobile, AL (5 hour trip, normally) last weekend. My Dr. told me to get out and walk every hour. I did close to that, and did just fine. He said it would wear me out, and he was right!! We went to Mobile pick up my sisters 3 kids (to make a total of 5- 2, 4, 9, 10 & 14) and drove right back home the next day. Crazy, I know. We are driving to Branson, MO next weekend. I'm sure I'll be making a few of those ice cream shop stops! Sounds good anyway!
You should do fine. Like my Dr. says, "Listen to your body. It will tell you when you've had enough." Just don't go to Chucky Cheese! We went tonight with our 2 children (2 & 4) and it absolutely kicked my butt!!!

Next weekend we are driving two hours to my family reunion. I really want to go because we missed it last year, and my favorite great aunt has bone cancer and this may be the last time I see her. I'll be three weeks post-op, but figure we can stop a couple of times. We always stop once for a bathroom break anyway!
