just can't seem to get " me " back

Hi! I'm new to the site and 3 months post TAH. I had a 5 lb basketball sized tumor removed 12.10.12 Before the TAH, I was full of energy and despite the tumor had very few physical complaints. Now, I'm lucky to get the energy to get out of bed by noon! My hubby is really trying to understand where his wife went...I'm at the opposite end of the emotion spectrum...not moody or tearful, I really don't feel much of anything. I really don't like the person I see since my TAH... any suggestions on finding myself again?

I'm only 3 1/2 weeks post-op however I also had a 6 lb fibroid removed so I'm thinking our bodies are going through a lot more than others. Try having some girl time with your girlfriends and look into hormone replacement. Most likely it's your hormones. There are also many natural ways instead of medications. Goggle it and you'll find them. I wish you the best.

You don't mention if your ovaries were removed too! This might be what's up. I, too, had a humongous 6.5 lb fibroid removed...maybe we need to form a club My recovery (I'm 6 weeks out) has gone really, really well but I have been extremely kind and gentle to myself. The last lingering issue for me is fatigue, due to low iron/anemia, and this will take months to resolve. I would suggest you be extremely kind and gentle with yourself and accept that it may take awhile before your body readjusts to a different reality. I think it might also be useful to check iron/hormone levels.

Be kind and gentle with yourself!

Re: just can't seem to get " me " back

I will also request b12 to be check . I had my TAH 2/26,13 n I had b12 low and anemia as well. I started treatment one week before surgery and I continue taking iron and b12. Energy levels are not 100 percent but it gives me enough energy to get out of bed walk around and do simple shores. I haven't had hormones yet so I do credit my energy to my multivitamin regimen my b12 and iron daily intake.
good luck:-)

Re: just can't seem to get " me " back

I am only 12 days out of surgery so I can speak from experience but my mom and grandma have both said that they didn't really feel like themselves again for 6 months after their surgeries. That's not to say that they didn't have energy the whole time or that they always struggled but that they just didn't feel like they were better for that long. It takes time to get back to feeling normal again.

Re: just can't seem to get " me " back

Hi DD, don't lose heart, I promise you will feel better soon. All of us seem to be a bit different, but not by much. I think age, and circumstance also play a part in our recovery.

I'm today 9 wks post op and FINALLY am starting to feel normal again! Thank The Lord! Wondered if I'd ever be "me" again to!

Like our other sisters here told you, it takes time. And as women, we naturally want to be "done and over it" ASAP! But it may take longer than we feel it should.

I also found that a complete lack of B-12 + iron does create anemia in many of us. Try taking these supplements to see if it helps you. If you didn't already know, "anemia" causes complete exhaustion - so your not alone. Xx

Sending you big (((hugs))) and healing prayers!

Re: just can't seem to get " me " back

Thanks for the replies and advice! It's great to know there are other women who have similar issues and have found resolutions to the problem!

I'm two Weeks away from my first 3mo exam to make sure no more cancer is there. I'm already ordered too have CBC and tumor antigen blood screen done before my appointment. Hopefully that will give me good news and good results.

Thank you all again for the support and advice! I pray for all of us every day! ((hugs))
