New Here

Hi Ladies

I am a new member of the site who has my total abdominal hysterectomy scheduled for Wednesday 29th February. I am extremely nervous for the procedure and the aftermath.

Even though my doctor has gone over the surgery I still feel a little over whelmed with it all.

Very unsure of what te recovery will be like and how the depression and pain will be.

So glas I found this site and looke finding some great infor and support.

Re: New Here

Hi sister, well i had a total hys including overies , yes had it all out. had this done on the 16 jan 12 so now just over 5 weeks, i guess every one is dif on recovery, was in hospital for 5 days as had abdominal cut below bikini line, on returning home i had bloating, constipation, and couldnt eat much for a good few days once home. i had gas in the upper part of stomoch which made gave me a full feeling. the doc gave me a white liquid called maaxlox which really helped and a stool softener.but this is all to be expected but it really does get better.after 2 weeks i went cinema, and since have been driving, been on a couple of social outings, have prob over done it so you should take it easy, i live alone with my son who is 15, he is not very domesticated so hence i cant sit still, bit of a busy body.
best of luck

hug
xx

Re: New Here

i had a abd hyst on the 15th (last wed),i am now one week out.the biggest prob today is my being bored. My staples came out yesterday and my belly still is tender but i am not taking any pain meds.I am surprised how exhausted i get.Taking a shower makes me more tired than when i ran for an hour before surgery.IFeel different post op than i thought i would, not bad but the tiredness is what i am not used too.I am very active pre-op and laying around is not something i like to do but i am very careful on not doing anything i shouldnt I so want to go back to work before six weeks but i know its not going to be anytime soon.I do get emotional a time or two but then it leaves as quick as it comes.I already feel so much better than i did before surgery .Its not as bad pain wise as i feared its just getting your body back that takes the time..Worrying before was the worst part..walking that last walk to the o.r ..but two minutes inside the room your done, afterwards is a 'little painful but they have the good drugs so that shouldn't be an issue..good luck with your surgery..it will be better on the other side!

Re: New Here

We each have a different experience post op. There is some pain and discomfort, swelling and emotions. The pain isn't too bad but for me it lasted a long time. Swelly belly is also an issue for me. Explore this site, there are suggestions on what to ask your doctor, what to take to the hospital and how to prepare your home. Come here often and ask all your questions. Remember you are not alone!
