Day 2 postoperative hysterectomy and legs shaking

I am 2 days out of surgery and my legs keep shaking involuntarily. I am also having issues with tasting the anesthesia when I eat or drink. Any suggestions?

Re: Day 2 postoperative and legs shaking

Legs shaking (or anything shaking) is pretty normal - your body is working to eliminate the anesthesia and it can take a while (ie weeks). I would also tremble involuntarily for no reason - my husband thought I was cold but i just couldn't stop - thankfully it only lasted a few minutes and would pass. Fatigue too can cause it. Tasting anesthesia - I've never heard of that so can't comment.

Welcome!! I am 47, am 20 days psot op TVH, I had the exact same thing happen.( First make sure you don't haven a fever. If you do you need to call your Dr) I think I narrowed it down to not taking in enough calories (not ever a problem normally) and pain meds. I was paying so much attention to my pain I forgot to eat and was grateful for times of sleep when I could rest and forget about the pain. So I was resting but not eating enough. Our bodies' calorie consumption goes up post op due to the stress and healing happening. I did protein shakes, the kind in the carton, easy peasy, no prep, adequate protein for healing and some calories. Plus they worked well for when I needed to take pain meds so my stomach didn't get upset. Good luck and best wishes for quick healing!!!

Re: Day 2 postoperative and legs shaking

Thank you Amy. I think that was the problem. I just started getting back my appetite and have noticed the shaking is starting to get better after I eat. I will get some protein shakes that is a great plan. Hope your recovery keeps improvingn

Re: Day 2 postoperative hysterectomy and legs shaking

Shaky legs? I didn't have them after surgery, but I frequently have them during tax season because things are so busy at work I forget to eat! :-) It's just low blood sugar. The protein shakes should help. Or try having a bit of cheese or peanut butter on whole-grain bread or crackers, or some yogurt or a bit of fruit. Anything quick and healthy that will get some fuel to the engine. :-)
