22 surgery poss hsy aug 31 during exp lap, scared

Hello
I am new here and I am having an exp lap(2nd) to see if my endo has left the building after 6 months of lupron. I am scared and only 22. I have had these problems for 6 years. I am the mother of one and married. But he is not very supportive. I need some support. Does intercourse feel the same after a TAH? Is it just a large hole up there? What about recovery time? Weight gain? hormone relplacement? I am a GVN, but I need to here it from some women who have had this done. Will I ever feel the same? Does it make me less of a women? PLEASE HELP LADIES!
Christy

Hi Christy Welcome to Hyster Sisters. I'm so happy you've found us.

Christy, facing the possibility of this surgery at your age must, indeed, be very scary. I was 44 when I had my hyst and I was just a basket case when I first scheduled my surgery

Have you checked the Hysterectomy Options and Alternatives message board? It's the message board where sisters discuss less invasive alternatives to surgery.

An hysterectomy is a MAJOR surgery, regardless of the manner in which it is performed. It involved an initial recovery process of 6 to 8 weeks.

If you keep your ovaries, it is unlikely that you will have to go on HRT. Weight gain is sometimes a side effect of menopause, however, I believe that a healthy diet, accompanied with regular exercises, once you are cleared for them, is the best way to avoid weight problems.

Personally, I don't feel the same as I did pre-op: I now feel healthy, whereas I felt very unhealthy befor my hyst. For me, it took about 5 or 6 months (not quite sure when it happenned) before I started feeling a lot better than I did before my problems started.

As far as the sex issues go, for me, sex is a whole lot better than it was Pre-Op: now that my hormones are balanced and that I'm no longer bleeding constantly, I have my sex drive back BTW, no, it's not just a big hole: the doctor sitches up the top of the vagina in what is called a vaginal cuff.

I hope that you find the answers you're looking for. Hopefully, the endo is gone and you will not have to go through this surgery.

Wishing you the best of luck.
